Sixcycle for hire + Apartments

by jimeng

Hi,

Can anyone help, firstly last time in Berlin a witnessed a bicycle of sorts with six people pedaling in a circle, looks great fun , but where can we hire one ?

Also anyone know of a good apartment around the Oranienburger/Alexandra Platz area for 6 people in May.

thanks Jimeng

Jimeng, I suppose you mean the Conference Bike?

They have six shops in Berlin, best drop them a mail and ask where you can rent it, and if you can place a reservation:

Best would be in the Mitte district (Augustst.), as you plan on staying there.
"Stadtplan" means map, btw.

As for the apartment:
Try the Circus Hostel or its sibling the Circus Hotel. You would have to book two apartments, though.

Both are close to Alex(anderplatz), somewhat close to Oranienburger St., they border the "in"-district Prenzlauer Berg, and the subway is just across the street.
Moreover, at least the hostel enjoys a very good reputation.

Travel Tips for Berlin

St. Hedwig's Cathedral

by magor65

The church is named after the patron of Silesia, St. Hedwig. Built in the 18th century for 10.000 catholics living in Berlin it was meant to be the sign of religious tolerance. It was also a kind of recompensation for the annexation of catholic Silesia by Fredrich II.
The copper green dome of unusual shape was added during the reconstruction of the cathedral after the war.
If you go inside you can't miss the Pieta coming from 1420.

Interesting Drink

by nrone

In one restaurant I ordered a special kind of drink I had never tasted before. It was called 'Diesel' and was a mix of lager and coca-cola. I must say I didn't have very high expectations on it at first, but when I had a taste of it I found that it was really good! I can't tell for sure where this drink was invented but I haven't come across it anywhere else than in Berlin so far.

nature park

EX railway station - now covered by trees and plants and home for many birds and insects.
Some steelsculptures in the landscape, nice for a short walk.
And no dogs allowed there - time to relax!

In the street market besides Museum Island, on a street along the river, we find nice little things for our relatives and friends. We liked particularly the candle stall and the one which selled eggs. There were also paintings stalls. It was not expensive and the atmosphere was friendly and familiar. It was Sunday morning.

A Beach in the middle of Berlin?

by sabsi about Strandbad Mitte

This cafe/pub/bar is called Strandbad Mitte because it looks like a swimmingpool a bit inside and outside (see picture!) of the cafe. Nice food, rather cheap!! Great breakfast as well!!!

This bar was there long before Berlin was covered with artifical beaches all along river Spree by the way. So the name is a little misleading as this place isn't a beach!
