Karneval der Kulturen

by timewaster

when does the the Karneval der Kulturen take place in Berlin?

Also, what is the weather like in Mid to end of May?
i googled it and it said it is around 65 degrees F. Is this accurate?

Re: Karneval der Kulturen

by Kathrin_E

Temperatures in late May can be anything between 8-10°C and 30°C (sorry I don't speak Fahrenheit). Statistics are never accurate because every year is different, and long-term predictions are impossible. Prepare for chilly rainy days as well as warm sunny days. You'll probably get a bit of everything.

ist takes place from May, 29 until June, 1. The Parade is on the 31. of May.

The wheather is really unpredictable :-(

Due to extreme climatic changes the World is experiencing at the moment, trying to predict the weather can be difficult because of local, on the day variations.
Most places now are seeing weather conditions well outside the norm.
The information below should be used as a guide only.

Here is the average weather for Berlin for this time of year.
Enjoy your holiday.

Travel Tips for Berlin

moving to berlin

by rkearns

in my experience, most people in berlin speak english. but i studied german before i went, just out of respect. i found that they spoke english and were happy to, once i showed that i attempted to learn the language. you will find yourself learning it quickly once you get there. you will have no choice. so immersion is good for that. you will definitely need it to be able to read lease agreements and other important documents.

secondly, look at all the VT tips on things to do in berlin. there are tons. i have never been to russia. why are you considering moving to berlin and russia?

there is plenty in the arena of WW11 history in berlin. i think that's where you want to be. cost of living is going to be about the same as the u.s., maybe higher since the euro is just 1.3 to the dollar. rent is higher in a big city like berlin, and you should plan to spend about the same on food. the canadian dollar is just a tid bit higher than american but lower than the euro, so plan to spend more to live there.

i would try to buy groceries as much as possible, make coffee at home, buy a transit card, etc. . going out takes a lot of money when you add it up.

for learning the language, i am a fan of Pimsleur. you can find it new and used on ebay.

Street Entertainers #1 - Frankfurter Tor Juggler

by johngayton

This guy was brilliant - juggling on his unicycle at the traffic lights on the busy crossroads of Franfurter Allee and Warschauer Straße. He had his timing to a tee, giving the stopped cars his quick performance and then passing the hat around them in time to get a few coins before the lights changed.

As a pedestrian I had the advantage of being able to catch several consecutive "shows" and get these pics.

Having worked out the lights' timing myself I dashed across to drop my spare change in his hat and gave him a big BRAVO!

The pics tell the story.

If you like chocolate then you are going love this place. We went at easter and so the displays of chocolate were of the Easter bunny kind. Huge scary rabbit it was!

Does a mean hot chocolate.

Oh no, it's Sunday, where can I buy...

by dlandt about Hauptbahnhof

In Germany, most stores are closed on Sunday, with very few exceptions. Sunday is devoted to families and not to shopping or work. Nevertheless, if you are in Germany and find that you missed your chance to get to the store on Saturday you don't necessarily have to lose heart. The Hauptbahnhof has three levels of stores similar to a shopping mall and including fast food restaurants. You won't find a full range fo fresh meat and vegetables but you should be able to buy most commonly needed items as well as souveniers, newspapers etc. Normal prices

Junction Bar

by isolanthui about Junction Bar

'The Beez' a musical by Claus, Claudia, Rob and Dola.
Some talented actors and singers I met in the Italian restaurant 'Golden Hane'.
Claudia sang a song of Gipsy King at that show, and had asked me to figure up the lyrics with my Spanish friend Julia's help.
