Re: german language school

by Turtleshell

Best would be to google for "Deutsch als Fremdsprache" + Berlin. Cheapest would probably be the so called Volkshochschule (or VHS), each borough of Berlin has a Volkshochschule.
The most well-known place to learn German is probably the Goethe Institut. They are not cheap, but I know an American who said that it was worth it.
While I understand that price is an issue, I for one think it shouldn't be the only aspect to take into consideration.

www.applelanguages.com offer schools in Berlin but I really couldn't say if their prices are competitive with others in the city. You can get a quote on their website and decide for yourself though.

Travel Tips for Berlin

Nickolai Viertal

by nigelw6443

You can spend a complete afternoon here. Have lunch and a beer in Berlin's oldest pub and then look around the interesting craft shops and take some pictures of the statues, including the original Berlin bear! I love to come here on a sunny afternoon.

Don't be afraid of the Berlin...

Don't be afraid of the Berlin citizen, they a little rough and the older but also a lot of the young people do not speak english. So take a german dictonary with you , some german words will make thinks easier for you but you definitly will meet people they speak english.
Anyway you love or you hate Berlin!

Gendarmenmarkt: one of the...

by aliante1981

Gendarmenmarkt: one of the finest squares of Berlin. It has a great atmosphere: people relax themselves sitting in front of the Berlin Theatre, while street musicians are playing. The title seems quite inappropriate for such a place, but it has historical significance. Infact, King Friedrich Wilhelm I ordered stables and guard room for his 'Gens d'Armes' regiment to be built there. The square owes its present looks to Friedrich the Great. Many people, especially those spending little time in Berlin, miss this place, but if you'd love a relaxing atmosphere you really should take a stroll to see it.

Not interesting clothes

by matcrazy1 about Macy's

The first second hand store we visited was closed at Sat 9.30 am (look at the pic). We thought first that they open at 10.00 am but they opened at 11.00 am so we came back there on the way back to our hotel in the afternoon.
Urszula said that she didn't find anything interesting there. The store was expensive. Clothes were not pretty and some looked over-used. Simply it was NOT her recommendation.
But if you are passing by you can stop there for a moment and check it personally. There are as many opinions as people, especially on clothes (add here politics :-).

OPENING HOURS
Mon - Fri: 11.00 am - 6.30 pm
Sat: 11.00 am - 4.00 pm. Old clothes designed by Armani, Jil Sander, Versace and other famous designers. Surely they were from their old collections and used by someone before. Over 100 €, even over 500 € for some very old clothes.

Getting around Berlin via U-Bahn & S-Bahn

by sue_stone

The easiest way to travel around Berlin is by using the U-Bahn & S-Bahn train network. These lines cross the city, intersecting at various points to make getting around very easy once you get the hang of reading the line map. The lines all have different colours to help differentiate them.

The U-Bahn is the underground railway and there are 10 lines. The S-Bahn or Stadtbahn (city railway) has 15 lines, connecting the centre with the suburbs. Many of the S-Bahn lines share tracks, so you need to keep a close eye on the indicator boards to ensure you catch the correct train.

The trains operate between 4am and 1.30am each day, with some lines running all night on weekends. If you are just going to travel within central Berlin you can buy a day pass that covers zones A&B - it cost 5.80 euro in May 2006. You can use the pass throughout the day, as many times as you like - but don't forget to validate your ticket before you use it for the first time or you may be subject to fine - those ticket inspectors are everywhere!
