Berliner Bear
by croisbeauty
One of the first thing, you noticed when strolling around, are this big bear statues spread all over the town. Each of the statues is unique, coloured in different colours and vivid and funny motifs. Bear is the emblem of Berlin and its trade-mark. As I was told by the locals, in 2001 the city authorities have engaded artists from all over the world in order to coloured this bears. One of this, head down, stands even in the front of prestigues Berliner Hilton.
Looking for Money Changers ? Use Banks !
by Pakistaniguy
Ahh this is one thing which is a bit tricky to find. I would recommend you to use one of the several Banks all over the Berlin to change your money. Usually there are ATMs are also present in the major branches. Do not forget that Deutsche Bank will take commision for money changing or any other bank related issues.
German (Prussian ?) small bricks
by matcrazy1
Excuse, it's more German or maybe old Prussian than exclusively Berlin custom.
Germans used small size bricks to built their houses, churches etc. in the past. They were much smaller than say in Poland and Czech. The area of both Poland and Czech partly belonged to Germany in the past and the population was mixed. No wander, you can see a lot of old houses made of small, German or Prussian - size bricks, even in my hometown.
Look at the brick pattern made of small (Prussian size) and larger bricks (red ones, Polish size) on my picture. I found it on the round wall of the apse of St. Mathew Church (St. Matthäus Kirche). Enjoy :-)

Kilkenny Irish Pub
by Maria250 about Kilkenny Irish Pub
"The Kilkenny Irish Pub at the S-Bahn station Hackescher Markt is three pubs in one, and every pub tells a story of the Irish history. The Kilkenny is a popular meeting point in the hot spot of Berlin, in which Berliners and international guests meet for drinking, conversation, music, and parties. They also show sports events like the Bundesliga, the English Premier League, or the Champions League, live on Sky Sports and Premiere. Every Thursday they have a pub quiz which can be played in either German or in English."
My gf, her buddy, and me celebrated my b'day there, and except for the OVER smokey air it was some great evening with some great live music, a band that covered REM songs, did a few Scottish ballads and stuff like that. And how sweet they did a toast at midnight for my b'day. Also had some amazing talk & beautiful roses from a Louisiana dude. As I use to state: Southerners are truly awesome, no matter where one comes cross'em (even in Germany).
