Design and service
The hotel describes itself as an accommodation with "a sense for lifestyle and design"
This is certainly true as you will notice once you enter the hotel's lobby. Design is also applied to the hotel rooms; it gives the rooms a sophisticated look. The only remark may concern the floor within the hotel room. It has one, modest rug; but apart from that, totally smooth. It may be very practical to clean, but it gives the room a rather cold look. However, it is not a serious issue while staying in the room.
Breakfast is served on the 7th floor which offers you a nice view of Berlin and its skyline. Guests have plenty of choice between different food and drinks.
The hotel is situated on the Kurfürstendam. So it still a while from the city centre of Berlin. Therefore, it is useful to use the U-bahn which is approximately 10 minutes walking. Or use one of the busses which stop in front of the hotel.
The staff is doing an excellent job. They act in a friendly, polite and helpful manner which makes you feel welcome. It proves that service is the most important factor, no matter how many facilities an accommodation may offer.
The hotel is a good choice for a city trip. The city centre is not too far away (if you use public transport) and the service is good.
Unique Quality: Design, friendly and helpful staff.

Overbooked
I cannot describe my stay because when we arrived for a weekend stay we were told the hotel was overbooked!
The manager arranged for us to move to the Concept Hotel saying it was of the same standard and that he would ensure we were given a good room there. As it turned out, the only room available was next to the elevator and overlooking 6 railway lines. The management told us that the Ku Damm hotel had been told this was the only room available when they booked us in!!!!
Needless to say we didn't get any sleep.

The Kool and the Kudammed
A very well conceived modern hotel. The decor looks like it fell out en masse from 'Wallpaper' magazine. The rooms have very high ceilings and monochromatic decors. They are a bit sterile (especially the almost rugless floor) but are very comfortable. NOT recommended for a first time vistor since it is not near a U Bahn or S Bahn station that allows direct access to tourist central Berlin (one must constantly make transfers). NOT a family hotel- much better suited to singles, hipster couples with a Euro bent.
Unique Quality: Generously sized rooms that have a "I live in Berlin" feel to them. On the 7th floor the hotel offers the best breakfast buffet I have ever seen in my work as a hotel professional. The view from this vantage point is also exceptional. Excellent security (you need to scan your key to use the elevator AND to access your floor). Charming, co-ed "Wellness" center with sauna and massages available by appointment. There are 2 complimentary internet kiosks in the lobby (without a printer, however). The lobby bar is lively and popular with upscale locals and guests alike. Service was always helpful and professional.

Modern and Trendy
This is a very cool hotel with a great hip and modern atmosphere. The rooms are very nice and the bar area is fun. Free Internet access is a great plus. The only thing I didn't like is the distance to the nearest U-Bann station and other attractions. The location is pretty far from any main sites. But if you're here for business in West Berlin, it's a great choice.

Can somebody suggest a decent hotel near berlin Zoological Garten, for a single person, which is quite reasonably priced?

I recently stayed at Ku-Damm 101 which is not really too close, but just a 15 minute walk down Kurfurstendamm. The rate was just 70 euros a night and the hotel is very cool.
One hotel right across from the zoo is The Palace. It's a four star but does offer reasonable rates from time to time. It's a fine enough hotel.
Viele Spaß in Berlin.

I stayed a couple of times at the Best Western Hotel Boulevard on Ku damm. Five minutes from the zoo, great breakfast, nice roof garden, clean rooms, not too expensive.

Europa City Hotel in walking distance from the Zoo.
Large big rooms and spacious bathroom. Not really cheap: single €75 and up. Private parking (against payment).
