by sim1 I stayed in a beautiful suite in the Madison City Suites: a fabulous, but expensive, accomodation in downtown Berlin. You can find more info on their website : http://www.madison-berlin.de/. It is located on the Friedrichstrasse, very close to `Unter den Linden` and `Checkpoint Charlie`. There are 83 Suites, 65 m² in size. There is a Finnish Sauna with a 300 m² Panorama Terrace. This is really a wonderful hotel.... or is it a "real hotel"? They call themselves city suites, and I think that is a better name for it. It is like having your own suite for the day, not the feeling that you are in a hotel at all. I absolutely loved it here. Hahaha, wish I had enough money to afford staying like this more often, because it isn't very cheap. When I arrived at the Madison, I was welcomed warmheartedly. My reservation was confirmed and I was guided to the parking lot which is at the back of the hotel. From there the receptionist brought me to my room. Here she gave a quick tour through my suite and showed me all the rooms. Everything you can think of was available here: a stereo set, television, video, kitchen with everything in it, you name it! And what wasn't there could be ordered by phoning the reception. The service is excellent here! They do everything to make you feel at home.... mmmm, yes, make you feel like it is your home, and not a hotel you are staying in. The location of the hotel is perfect! It is in downtown Berlin and a minute's walk away from 'Check Point Charlie' and 'Unter Den Linden'. The hotel is hard to find though, because it is part of a complex called "Kontorhouse Mitte". But if you make reservation, you can ask for the directions to the hotel. The hotel doesn't have its own restaurant, but right outside is a nice restaurant where you can have lunch or dinner. In the next few accomodation tips you can see some more pics of the hotel. PROPELLER ISLAND CITY LODGE www.propeller-island.net4.com<br /> propeller-island@net4.com Paulsbornerstrasse 10, 10709 Berlin Tel: 893 25 33, Fax: 891 87 20 . All rooms 140 DM per night. Same price for one or two persons. No Credit cards. If you are looking for something really different, the rooms in this converted apartment are pretty wild. Artist and musician Lars Stroschen has created each chamber as a sleeping experience from the Crystal Maze-type 'Symbol room' to the Toontown fantasy of the 'Burgzimmer'. Guests can prepare their own meals in the equally wacky kitchens or, if booked in advance, there is an 'aphrodisiac menu'(!) dinner available which will be specially cooked for you. Ideal for two couples travelling together as each pair of rooms shares a bathroom/WC and kitchen which is pretty much self-contained. There is no TV or phone in the rooms to disturb your enjoyment and the owner requires cash payment in advance as well as DM100 key deposit. In the photo you can see the 'Castle Room'. Take a look in the web page for the others. They are amazing! Theme: Other

A budget idyll. by oja Staying in the camp will cost you next to nothing - 5 EUR a night, to be precise. This sum gets you rented mats and blankets plus a few square metres on the floor in one of their big communal tents. There's always some room available, except maybe at the time of the Love Parade (I was never around then so I'm not sure). If you want some privacy, pitch your tent for the same price. Bathrooms and (hot) showers are well-maintained although not sparkling clean (but after all, it's a camp we're talking about). Luxury equipment includes a washing machine (you can do your laundry for 2,5 EUR), cooking facilities and a cafeteria with the cheapest breakfast / beer in town. Jugendscamp Fliesstal is a fantastic meeting point. If you sit down by the campfire lit every evening it won't take long before you're surrounded with soul- and bodymates from all over the Globe. My personal record is meeting representatives of 19 nationalities in five days. And there's ALWAYS someone with a guitar! by oja S-Bahn line Wannsee - Oranienburg For 7.80 you can sleep all day!
We discovered it back in the times when Jugendscamp Fliesstal still had the lockout policy, which meant waking up everybody at eight and keeping us out of the camp until five to prevent theft. Since most of us discovered the joys of Berlin nightlife and failed to return before five in the morning (by the first U-Bahn), getting up was agony. To conquer the tiredness, the three of us would jump on this really long line (over an hour) and blissfully doze off until awaken by a conductor banging on the windows at the final stop. Then our day in Berlin could begin! Theme: OtherComparison: least expensiveAddress: S-Bahn stops all along the line

by gnowk I stayed with a friend in Kreuzberg. This area is definately one of the emerging 'trendy' areas in the East side. The flat itself was quite cool, with a distinct Bohemian feel to it.
From the picture, this building is located in East Berlin. The building on the left has been refurbished. I think I'd rather live in the building on the right. Theme: OtherAddress: Kreuzberg, East Berlin

We stayed in a couple of different hostels while we were there... I can't remember the name of the first one, but the second one was called Bax Pax and was very nice, clean and relatively inexpensive.. The people who work there are also really laid-back and friendly...
Well decorated, nice lounge serving beer until late, internet access... Theme: HostelComparison: least expensiveDirections: A 2 minute walk from the nearest train stop (which I don't remember)
