Sabs and Soni by sabsi My friend Sonja's flat sharing community just off Ku-Damm. There's always a floor for me to sleep on.... or even a bed!! That's why I can't really recommend accommodation... We stayed in a hotel in Spandau once which was basically a kip and overpriced.... From what I heard Hotel am Anhalter Bahnhof is good value and Propeller Island is a great arty place! 0 DM :-)
Always a fridge full of Diet Coke, lots to laugh and talk about and a warm welcome!!! Theme: OtherComparison: least expensiveAddress: You think I'll tell ya? No way!

about 17 DM/ night for one person + tent. hot showers cost 50 pfennig.
It's the only campsite you can reach with the U/S-Bahn-system, otherwise I wouldn't recommend it. There's a kitchen and washingmachines. Be sure to arrive before 9pm, otherwise you won't get in anymore! Theme: CampgroundDirections: Neue Kreisstrasse 36 (Zehlendorf, take S7 to Griebnitzsee)Other Contact: tel. 030/8051737

25 DM/bed, small extra charge for sheets
It's one of the cheapest hostels in Berlin. Besides this it's clean, right in the centre, there's a bar and a kitchen, there's max. 6 beds a room (so no bunk beds), there's a good atmosphere but it's not noisy, and staff is friendly and helpful. In other words, this is the perfect place! Theme: HostelDirections: Chausseestrasse 102 (Mitte, take U6 to Zinnowitzer Strasse)Other Contact: tel. 030/28390965

by tazmaniak About £60 per night or 199DM for a double room including breakfast.
Whilst not as funky as The Bleibtreu, this hotel is comfortable and central. Hotel staff are quite friendly and rooms are large and modern (no air con!!) Theme: HotelComparison: less expensive than averageDirections: Ku'damm 35. Near to Ku'damm U-Bahn and Zoo Stations.Other Contact:

Well, actually I never found a hotel or inn in Berlin. The first time when we got there and failed to find a bed in Youth Hotel, then we decided to transfer to other cities. I planned to go to Koln by the last train that night. I was not familiar with the info board in the platform, and also I made a mistake - I think Koln is the last station for that train, but it's not. (quite stupid? ^^, anyway....) So since I didn't see Koln showing on the board, I didn't catch any train till the last one had passed. I felt quite strange first for no train came any more, then I asked a guy working there, and he said the next train to Koln is at 5AM. I was stuned for a few seconds when I heard that. I guess I could not find any hotel at that time(I mean cheap hotel, hehe). Finally I decided to stay in the station for one night. Actually it was still quite crowded in the station even around midnight. Many young people sat or slept on the floor. I guess they might be in the similar situation as me. So I felt better since no only me stay there. I sat on the floor and wrote my travelling diary for some time. But I could not finished it cause too sleepy. I didn't want to fall asleep there, for a little bit fear. So I tried to keep sane and walked here and there. Many people and cars were still crowded in the street outside. But it got much colder at ngith, so I didn't want to get out. Finding a place and sitting on the stairs, - around me many young people sat there - I felt sleepy and a little bit boring. What should I do? No idea....Then I drew some sketches for fun. However, it was just a way to keep not falling aleep too soon........ I caught the first train to Koln in the morning and finished that unforgetable night in Berlin station. When I told my German friend about that night's experiece, he said:' Why not call me, silly girl? I have many good friends living in Berlin, they are sure to give you a bed!' 'Well,' I said, 'I might be silly.......but it was really a unique experience to me. I like it.' Yes, actually I enjoyed that night. And Berlin becomes a very special city to me after then :). Although Frederik's is no longer open I am keeping it on my page because I think it was one of the best hostels that I stayed in. It was a friendly place that catered to backpackers and offered a clean, safe and fun place to stay and the staff was amazing. I'm sad to see it close down. If anyone has any idea what happed to Frederik's or their staff please let me know. I hope you're doing well Sarah!
Very friendly, knowledgeable staff and affordable prices. Grocery store right across the street and walking distance from the East Side Gallery. Also very close to S-Bahn and U-Bahn stations.
