The Novotel Berlin Airport provided very decent accomodations at a fairly decent price. The hotel is located close to Tegel Airport which is about 20 minutes away from Zoo Station. The rooms were quite large, especially useful for people traveling with children (two kids below 12 can share the room with parents at no extra cost). A double and a twin bed were standard in each room, and we were provided a small cot for our 2-year old. The en suite bath and toilet facilities were more than adequate. Considering the airport was a stone’s throw away, the noise insulation was superb as you hardly noticed the take-offs and landings. The breakfast buffet was quite filling usually consisting of cold meats, a wide selection of breads, jams and cereals, Nurnberger sausages, bacon and eggs as well as fruits and juices. The location however caused some inconveniences. Tegel Airport is serviced by several bus lines (X9 and 109 to Zoo, TXL to Unter den Linden) to the city center, with a bus running usually every 10 minutes. These buses all passed through a bus stop which was quite a walk (about 500 m) from the hotel. As such we normally chose to take the free shuttle to the airport which the hotel provided and take public transport from there to the center. Service was upon request and a short wait usually had to be endured whether coming from the hotel itself or at the airport going to the hotel. Staff at the reception were courteous but usually needed follow-up in arranging for the shuttle. This hotel is actually geared more towards business people as opposed to the average tourist. But the facilities and rates are very family friendly to my opinion. The access to public transport is a bit of a hassle but if you are going to be spending the whole day away anyway, then it isn’t too bad. 70 Euro for a room to fit 2 adults and 2 children makes it worth it.
Unique Quality: Family size rooms - double and twin bed in each.
Nice bath, shower and toilet facilities.
Good sound proofing so you hardly hear the goings on at the airport nearby.
Filling breakfast.
Directions: Take bus 109 or X9 from Zoo Station to Tegel Airport. Then go to the Airport Information desk and ask for the free shuttle to be called. The shuttle will then pick you up near the bus stop.
