The hotel is very conveniently located on a quiet street near Friedrichstrasse and the Gendarmenmarkt - and as the name of the hotel implies, Checkpoint Charlie is only a couple of minutes walk away. The hotel is within walking distance of most of the main attractions, and there are two U-bahn station nearby: Stadtmitte and Kochstrasse.
Mercure Hotel Checkpoint Charlie has 135 rooms, and non-smoking rooms are available. We had a standard double room - the hotel does not have any twin rooms. Our room was *very* spacious, light and airy - with a big, comfortable bed, a seating area, two large closets and a work desk. Amenities included a safe, minibar and satellite tv. The big bathroom was spotlessly clean - no bathtub, but a very powerful shower! (Even the toiletries were really nice!:o)
WiFi is available in the rooms, but internet access is rather pricey: 9 euro for 30 minutes, 30 euro for 24 hours. (But there's one computer in the lobby, where you can access the internet for free.)
We didn't try the rather expensive breakfast, so I can't tell you whether it's worth the 16 euro per person or not...:o) Friedrichstrasse with loads of cafes and restaurants is a two minutes walk away, and there's also a Spar grocery store near the hotel.
We booked through bookings.org and paid 77 euro / night - which I found to be extremely good value for money! I would love to stay here again when I return to Berlin - the Mercure Hotel Checkpoint Charlie is highly recommended.
