Location,location!
by christine.j
We had chosen the Motel One simply because from there I could walk to the start of the halfmarathon and wouldn't have to take the subway.
Our room was small, but adequate. This is a two star hotel, so I didn't expect any luxuries. We had everything we needed, though.
Our room faced the street and it was very noisy when the window was opened, but when it was closed the noise was shut off. The double-glazed windows really did their job.
Breakfast was not included in our rate and we didn't have any, so I cannot say anything about it.
The staff was very friendly. For the first time since I've used it, www.hrs.de had forgotten to pass on a cancellation and the hotel expected my son to check in as well. But I had had to cancel for him some days earlier, however, it was not a problem.
The hotel was almost fully booked, most people were runners in the halfmarathon, and I don't think they had any trouble giving the room to somebody else.
Unique Quality: The best part of the Motel One Alexanderplatz is its location, right next to the subway station Alexanderplatz. It's a one to two minute walk from the trains to the hotel, and Alexanderplatz is one of the hubs in Berlin. From here you can get everywhere.
Directions: Station Alexanderplatz, leave through exit marked Dircksenstrasse and walk down the street, pass the Kaufhof and cross at the traffic lights. The hotel is on the right side.

Excellent location, super value!
by Renate999
This hotel is hard to beat as far as value for money goes. It is furnished like a designer hotel, but prices no where near what I'd expect to pay.
Rooms are not very big, but do have a flat-screen tv and a nice bathroom with a walk-in shower.
There is free wireless internet in the lobby, so order a coffee at the bar and install yourself in one of the big blue chairs!
Just outside the hotel are various restaurants. Alexanderplatz station also has several fast-food places if you want a quick bite. Cross the Alexanderplatz to find Alexa, the brand new shopping mall.
Breakfast is extra but worth the money.
Unique Quality: Free wireless internet, excellent location just a few minutes walk from the Alexanderplatz. Close to restaurants, shops and public transport.
Directions: Arriving a Alexanderplatz station take the exit facing the Kaufhof department store. Go left on this street and keep walking straight on. Cross the road, continue for 1 more block and the hotel is on the corner.

Comfortable but small.. pretty basic
by Bavavia about Motel One- Ander de Urania
I stayed two nights, it was 79 euros plus 7.5 euro for breakfast buffet. I think hotel is worth about 59 euro max. The room was comfortable and quiet ( except for guy above me snoring loudly one of the nights). Other than that , it was really quiet and the bed was comfortable, but it was small..and i wouldnt have wanted to stay more than 2 nights.. You can borrow a laptop from hotel reception desk and use their laptop in the lobby for free.. The buffet breakfast was really nice. Great selection and you could always find a seat. It got crowded but you could even eat in the lobby if you wanted. But i was always able to find a seat. Closest ubahn station is Wittenbergplatz. Its right down the street , very close. But coming from the airport you have to take a bus ( tegel). You would take the bus to zoologischer garten. Then take bus M46 and its a 5 minute walk from there. I cant remember name of stop, but just ask bus driver tell him you want to go to an der urania. There is an info booth at the zoologischer stop as well. The bus ride from airport to ubahn is about 20 minutes.. bus ride from ubahn to hotel is about 10 minutes maybe..

Hotels in Berlin
by jeffa79
Hi,
We're going for 3 nights in Berlin (Thu-Sun) in mid-Feb and are looking for the best standard hotel we can get for around £80 GBP per night (£240 in total for the weekend) that is central and provides easy access to see most of the city in the 2 full days we will be there.
Can anyone help us?
Thanks,
Jeff

Hotel Augustinerhof if you don't mind seeing some hookers at night just around the corner (NOT in front of the hotel).
http://www.hotel-augustinenhof.de/en-index.php
Rates: 89 EUR / night; probably without breakfast.
Alternatively, I'd say Motel One Alexanderplatz (better located) or Kurfürstendamm (cheaper).
https://www.motel-one.de
Rates: 74/84 EUR without breakfast.
If I were you, I'd probably choose Hotel Augustinerhof.

*Gagh* how could I forget ...? Not a "real" hotel, more a guesthouse, but it's nicely located (my favourite borough in Berlin) and very affordable. Check their 2-room apartment:

Try the Accor hotel chain, this is a Mecure hotel, downtown Berlin for 79euro, 237 for the 3 days.
thy have other hotels there, check out there other hotel brands in the chain, the Ibis is better but obviously a little higher, but they do have more ecumenical hotel brands in their chain.

Website tripadvisor, look up hotels in Berlin and you can see the prices as well as read reviews by past guests. Also there is often the option to "show this Hotel on the map".
