English football

by frederikranke

Hi,

Are there any good places to watch English football in Berlin? I live really close to KDW so something close to that would be interesting. I have checked out the Irish bar at the Europa Centre, but did not fancy that place at all.

Two more Irish bars for you, which will probably strike you as as 'artificial' and over-priced as the one you have already found: The Kilkenny in Hackescher Markt (under the S-Bahn arches) and the The Irish Harp in Charlottenburg. See http://kilkenny-pub.de/. Both show premiership games. I just hate places that offer you (bad) beer in pint glasses at inflated prices. Let's just hope some locals come up with some better suggestions for you...

Not close to KdW, sorry.

Murray's Irish Bar
Erkelenzdamm 49
(Kreuzberg, U1 Prinzenstr. or U1 / U8 Kottbusser Tor)

Hairy Mary's
Diedenhofer Str. 5
(Prenzlauer Berg, U2: Senefelder Platz (near the watertower))
Their website is down, so I don't know if they still exists

A little closer to the pub JHR mentioned would be
Oscar Wilde
Friedrichstrasse 112a
(Mitte S+U Friedrichstr. or U2 / U 6 Stadtmitte)

You could always try this one - It's definitely NOT an Irish bar - http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/9d51c/12626/6/

Obviously if there's a local game then that's what's going to be on but if not I'm sure they'll be happy to switch channels for you- U-bahn Fankfurter Tor

A tourist modern city

by Pakistaniguy

Berlin is growing rapidly as a major touristic modern city with lots and lots to offer to its visitors. There is something for everyone in this city from Musuem & Art Galleries for history and art lovers and never-sleeping thrilling night life for all kind of people ! There are so many options of things to do and see that it gets difficult to decide what to do first and so on. Its the same thing with the night life, there are so many good discoes and bars that even if u stay for 2 weeks u won't get bored of them !

Humorous graffiti - advertisement

by matcrazy1

I found this graffiti - humorous and colorful drawings on the wall of the building which housed Checkpoint second hand store at Mehringdamm 57 (Kreuzberg). That's why I entered the store. The drawings covered the wall till the second floor and were in real a very interesting and smart advertisement.

Soviet War Memorial, Buch

by alancollins

In Berlin there are 3 large Soviet War Memorials that were erected soon after the end of WW2. The most well known is probably the one in the Tiergarten Park, which is close to the Reichstag. As the battle for Berlin was costly in terms of lives there are other smaller memorials scattered about the former East Germany. One of these memorials is in the Buch Schloss Park. Soldiers that had died during the battle for Berlin were buried here after the battle. The memorial was constructed in 1947/8 and the soldiers were reburied in larger cemeteries in Berlin. The memorial stands on the edge of the Schloss Park which originally had a castle and orangery, which was used by the mayors of Berlin as a summer house. This did not fit in with Soviet ideals and they were demolished in the 50s and 60s. Take the S2 to Bernau. Outside the railway station turn right along Wiltbergstrasse. The memorial is about 5 minutes walk away on the opposite side of the road.

Angebote? What's that?

by matcrazy1 about Chic

"Angebote" means sale, discount in German. I found a lot of "angebote" in February in Berlin but they often sold not the best stuff at discount prices like these clothes on my picture. On the other hand there were many winter clothes sold at discount prices (usually 10 - 30 % off) in late February. Nothing there - go inside the store. From 10.00 € per each cloth item.
