Weimar cabaret in Berlin
by JohnnySpangles
Does it still exist anywhere in Berlin? Seriously, are there any clubs/cabaret/revue/burlesque type bars that would have that sort of decadent 'cabaret' type entertainment...even if it is only a tourist type thing....if so would it be likely to be on mid-week?

Strangely, they seem to be everywhere, - except Berlin. London, New York, Los Angeles....but not in Berlin.
May have something to do with the Berlin stage version of Cabaret, which had Nazi and racial overtones. It was not well received......
Travel Tips for Berlin
Berlin, Alexander Platz. Even...
by gnt70
Berlin, Alexander Platz. Even in the year 2000 there was some flavor of the old times and the divided Europe. Things are changing rapidly and Germans are building modern things everywhere - they want to forget - and noone can blame them for that.
online maps of berlin

this is a useful site for finding locations anywhere in Germany. PLZ means postleitzahl, or zip code, and under ORT you would type the city, then under Straße the street name and number.
It's also especially useful because the maps are so comprehensive that they include bus lines and train stations.
The Soviet War Memorial in Treptower Park
by azz8206
The Soviet War Memorial in Treptower Park is a must see for anyone going to visit Berlin. It is a massive and beautiful open space that is pure genius. Hats off to the Soviet propaganda machine that is alive and well and living in Treptower Park. The Memorial is 900 metres from the entrance to the park. You will see an arch and a fountain across the road. Go through the arch. You will get to a statue of the Motherland weeping at the loss of her sons, look to the left. You will be greeted by two towering granite Soviet flags flanked by two statues of kneeling soldiers with their helmets in their hands and their heads hung down. Passing through the granite flags is a stairway that you must manoeuvre down. In the middle of the monument is a well maintained lawn with well trimmed bushes all around and lined by 16 stone sarcophagi with carvings of military scenes. There are quotations on both sides of the sarcophagi one side in Russian and the other in German. At the end and on top of the mausoleum, is a towering statue of a Soviet soldier holding a German child in one arm while another has his/her arms around his neck. His sword is drawn and pointed towards the ground. Underfoot there is a broken Nazi swastika that he has trampled on. All the stone was taken from Hitler's Reich Chancellery. There are 5000 Soviet soldiers buried here. This memorial is really and I mean REALLY amazing. There aren't many people here like in other touristy locations which is great because this memorial is meant to be admired in quiet awe. I will certainly never forget coming here.
Another thing I'd like to point out. The park is only a half hour walk from the East Side Gallery down Muhlenstrasse so it would be wise to do both on the same day. At the end of Muhlenstrasse go right and over a bridge and the park is right there. Or you can take the S-Bahn to Ostkreuz then transfer lines here to Treptower Park. Entrance is free.
Stone sculpture
by matcrazy1
This strange stone sculpture was put on the square located by the Neue Nationalgalerie (New Gallery) where I was watching world famous paintings from collection of MoMA (Mueum of Modern Art New York). The sculpture maybe used as a bench but rather not in February.
African in Berlin
by Docu2001 about Lumumba
An African music and dance bar named after Patrice Lumumba - the first head of state of the Congo - a freedom fighter assasinated within a year of taking office.
The vibe is friendly and the music is a mix of african selections with an emphasis on the north. There is a small dance floor, a short bar and a number of tables scattered around this intimate little club. We arrived around 11PM and left about 1:00AM ...were offered a round on the house ... and generally made to feel very comfortable. A good place to hear some African sounds and dance a dance or two. Comfortable ... relaxed
