Berliner Bier
They have some sorts of beer in Berlin, one is called Pils and one called Berliner Weisse. They drink the Berliner Weisse in the summertime with raspberry syrup or woodruff syrup which many people find very delicious.

hi
i've booked an apartment on luetzowstrasse. can anyone tell me if there are any supermarkets nearby?
what about restaurants? where should we go near the apartment for some local food?
thanks
the website of one of the German retail-companies "Kaiser`s - Tengelmann" says the nearest supermarket is "10785 Berlin, Potsdamer Platz" or "Nollendorfplatz". Maybe you can find other possibilities nearer. For local food this is in the highclass category: http://www.lochner-restaurant.de/ also near your apartment is restaurant "Julius" with German specialities.
Hey, concerning the first question I assume that you must be American ;-) There are supermarkets everywhere and although I am not sure of supermarkets right on Luetzowstrasse, there are at least some on Potsdamer Strasse. Depending on where your hotel is, that should be within 5-10 minutes walking distance.
For German food (although not necessarily local), you should go to Maultaschen Manufaktur which is located right behind the corner of Luetzowstr. / Potsdamer Str. (they might have a website, just google it). That restaurant mainly offers dumplings with very nice fillings that are popular in Southern Germany. If you are looking for a broader variety of restaurants to choose from you might walk down to Winterfeldstr. (close to Nollendorfplatz), lots of pubs and restaurants there.

1948: The Soviet military administration started a blockade of the western part of the city. The Allies started a airlift and with about 275000 flights they brought food, fuel and other goods to the people in West-Berlin.
I have lived in Calgary for some 38 years and the trend in that city is to build out from the centre into the surrounding coutryside. This is not possible in many cities in Europe, Asia and S America, hence the vast wall of apartments shown in the photo. I took the shot not because it was odd, more to show how people live in other countries.
I recall walking past some derelict land on Yorck strasse, used to some extent for rail lines then walking towards these apartments, so I guess in the general area of Hohenstaufenstrasse.
Most of the Charity Shops that you find in the UK are small retail outlets that follow a similar pattern. During a wet afternoon I decided to give the Humana Shop at Alexanderplatz a try. The shop is huge in comparison to UK Charity shops and is more like a department store. The largest amount of goods on sale is women’s clothing. They are all carefully laid out for inspection on rails with plenty of room to move about. So if you want to kill some time and you like looking in charity shops give one of these shops a try, there is a dozen around Berlin. The shop is 1300 square metres in size with 25,000 items available for sale. Clothing for Women
Looks like at Monastiraki, between the rembetes in Athens... but it also can be in Berlin-Schöneberg (near Kreuzberg!)... good fellows are everywhere... Music without borders... Music!!! ...When Greece meets Berlin! ...Yes, there's sometimes cool Greek live music at the weekends...and greek food served for reasonable prices everyday... ...why? ...isn't life too short for such things?
