This is as close as I could get to the Brandenburger Tor .Upto 1850 this Tor was the connection between the huntingground Tiergarten and the city of Berlin. Then the city wall and the other 17 gates of the city were torn down leaving the Brandenburger Tor as only remaining gate. The architect of the Brandenburger Tor was inspired by the Propylaees, the entrance gate of the Acropolis in Athens (+/- 450 bf Christ).
The architect uses the still relatively new technology of armoured concrete to create a huge masive block which dominates the square. From the outside, however, the construction is hidden underneath a skin of bricks. The interior gets its majestic and mystic appearancxe from 13 huge concrete frames forming pointed arches.

How to get in: In theory, the church is open 5 days a week. When I went there it was supposed to be open according to the official opening hours - but it wasn't. Better contact the parish before visiting.
This I believe was the first shopping centre in the city? Housed in this modern complex is an unusual water clock. also a variety of shops, restaurants and bars including the famous Irish bar. Most things
We went with Ryanair from Dublin to Berlin Schoenfeld. Surprisingly for Ryanair, this airport is actually near the advertised city. WOW. :)
You can get a direct Regional express train which comes on the hour, taking you to the centre in 20 mins. Or the standard s-bahns, which take 40mins. Either way, the ticket still costs €2.10.
