Berlin-Schönefeld Flughafen to Dresden at night?

by shengyan_yang

Hi guys!

I will arrive at Berlin-Schönefeld Flughafen at 22:20 with Easyjet's flight, and I need to go to my friends' place in Dresden.

I've read the old posts here and checked the BerlinLinienBus, which runs early in the morning till evening that obviously I can't make it.Also I checked the DB website and it seems there are only 2 trains after I arrive, HOWEVER I need to transfter 2 times and finnally get Dresden next morning around 7am!

So is there any other suggestion that I can go from airport to Dresden that night with a low budget?

Vielen Danke!

I think your best choice is spending a few hours in the airport and then take the direct train at 5:15 in the morning. The full fare would be 33 Euro, depending on when you travel you may still be able to get a special for 29 Euro, but it's only 4 Euro difference.
Any other train leaving earlier would mean spending some time on a train station in the middle of the night. The airport will be safer.
Or consider checking into a hotel for a few hours, if you don't want to stay in the airport or if you're not allowed to. I've only been there once and I don't know if they close at night.

Thanks Christine!

I guess I will try to find a Mitfahrt oder check in some hostel within U-/S-Bahn's reach that time:)

Christine's advice seems really sensible. Personally, I would go for the train from Schoenefeld station at 5:15 (Service D60379 going to Prague) which will get you to Dresden in just under two hours (Cost:29 Euros if you can book ahead online). Have you seen the 'sleeping in airports' website? Here are the reviews for Schoenefeld: "http://www.sleepinginairports.com/list.asp?region=1&country=Germany&city=Berlin&terminal=Schoenefield". It doesn't seem that bad (compared to some!) - 24-hour cafe, padded seats, tolerant police - and gives you an idea of what to expect.

If you stay overnight in Berlin, to get a train the following day, note that trains for Dresden now seem to depart from either Hauptbahnhof or Ostbahnhof, so this might influence where you stay (though Berlin's transport system is so good that you could stay anywhere in the city without really worrying about problems getting to the main stations).

Best wishes from England...

Travel Tips for Berlin

S-Bahn Arcs

by Turtleshell

S-Bahn Bögen (arcs), especially those between Zoo Station and Savigny Platz or between Friedrichstrasse and Hackescher Markt, accommodate some nice restaurants and shops. It's fun to have a beer or dig through second-hand books and hear the S-Bahn (commuter train) rumbling over your head.

Berliner Weisse

by richiecdisc

One very particular bier in Berlin is the Berliner Weisse. It's made by mixing either a green (woodruff) or red (raspberry) syrup with an effervescent and very sour locally-produced wheat beer. It's low in alcohol and refreshing in summer. I like Shultheiss' version plain. It's a very tart taste sensation, similar to a lambique in Belgium. You will get condescending stares if you order it this way, but if you enjoy tart things, give it a try.

For those who are not Techno Freaks, just like me: Forget about Love Parade! We have another great event taking place every year at Whitsun. It's called 'CARNIVAL OF CULTURES' and it's Berlin's international summer carnival. It is a unique opportunity for ethnic communities to make their respective cultures visible to Berliners and visitors alike. The top event of the Carnival weekend is the PARADE on Whit-sunday. And there is a street festival with Latino, African, Oriental & Eurasian presentations lasting for 4 days plus many parties, especially on sunday. Location: Kreuzberg.

Kurfürstendamm

by TinyTuck

("Kudamm") It's the representative street of West Berlin and a great shopping mile with luxuary boutiques and international store chains. It's not really my piece of cake (and not my budget), but it was a nice experience to walk down the street on a saturday afternoon and what the people :-)
