Hotel closed

The hotel is closed (for renovations?). Web bookings have been transferred to M68, an adjacent hotel, with no notification to customers. If you have a reservation I'd advise checking/reconfirmation.

We had a "prepaid non-refundable" booking from Putinn (via booking.com) for two ensuite rooms and had a nightmarishish (in the Berlin heatwave) encounter with M68 -- no record of prepayment (still sorting out whether Putinn actually charged as they said they would), reservation transferred as shared-bathroom, complaints that the price for the Putinn reservation was too low, barely adequate rooms (they told us that Putinn was "much worse" and that the blood-stained matresses in the corridor were from Putinn). In spite of their own complaints about the prices, they weren't interested in our request to cancel the whole reservation.

Not the end of the world -- they honoured the price Putinn had quoted and the staff was friendly enough after the frosty opening. So we got what we ordered -- if not, in room-quality terms, quite what we expected. The moral is probably that in Berlin you get what you pay for, and should budget for a considerably higher hotel price than elsewhere in Germany.
