Top Derag Hotel Koenigin Luise Berlin

This was a very modern, clean, comfortable place to stay. Located in the northeastern part of the city, it was a short walk to a streetcar that can get you to Berlin's TV Tower in about 15 minutes without needing to transfer. The hotel provided a card that allowed unlimited access to the public transit system.

If you're travelling with a companion, be sure you know if the double beds will separate or not (depending on how well you know your companion, of course!). In the larger rooms, some of the beds are two singles which can be separated, but some are not. However, you may get a smaller room when you ask for 2 single beds. The larger rooms have a "living room", and a larger bar area that the smaller rooms do not. An example of the larger room is pictured on the hotel's website.

There's a cable TV and fridge in each room, and a contraption to press your pants. You buy tokens for the washers and dryers at the front desk.

Front desk staff was very helpful, and were able to speak English.

Reviews I'd seen of this hotel before I stayed here gave it a rating of 4 out of 5. I'd agree.

Unique Quality: They have a great serve-yourself breakfast in the morning, served on the lobby level and one floor below, which will meet any North American expectation. The variety includes eggs, sausage, juices, a variety of dry cereals, croissants and other breads, and top it off with coffee, a choice of teas, or even a glass of champagne!

Hint: The lobby level restaurant gets the majority of guests, so it runs out of food more quickly. Use the lower level room when it's open.

There is also a Fitness Center and a sauna on-site.

There is a small convenience store at one end of the hotel, which you get to from outside. There, you can pick up munchies, beer and wine.

There is also a bar in the lobby, and a free Internet connection...when it's working.

There's a small pub/restaurant across the street from the convenience store, a Chinese take-out at the other end of the block, as well as a few other restaurants in the area within walking distance.
