Great Value in Friedrichshain

Got a twin room in the Mercure City Park Ost for $50 a night. This hotel is in a nice part of town (Friedrichshain) to the east of the center. It is a block or two to the Frankfurter Allee S-Bahn and U-Bahn stations. It is located in a shopping plaza with restaurants, ATMs, and other stores available within the building's courtyard.

The Mercure Berlin City Ost is within easy walking distance of many restaurants and the bars of Simon Dach Strasse. There are many internet cafes and doner shops within easy reach as well.

About five stops on the U-Bahn from the Frankfurter Allee station gets you to the Alexanderplatz and the tv tower. About fifteen minutes on the U-/S-Bahn gets you to Friedrichstrasse or most other central sites.

There is also an underground parking garage attached to the building which cost about 6 euro a day if I remember correctly.

Neighborhood question

by Jagermeister

I am staying at the Mercure Berlin City Ost soon and am curious as to the neighborhood that it is in. It is near the U-Bahn stations at Samariterstr. and Frankfurter Allee. Is it a decent area at night both for safety and entertainment?

I appreciate your feedback.

well that hotels is pritty far from where I would say "action" takes place - what are you in to?

Re: Neighborhood question

My brother and I will be in town to do some sight seeing during the day (what's left of the Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, Branderburg Gate, etc) and some low key partying at night. We are not too big on the club scene these days, but we do enjoy a good bar.

Haven't seen your post earlier. But here are my thoughts.
The area itself is safe, maybe looking a bit shabby as a lot of the old houses need a reconstruction or a least some paint.
Nightlife next to your hotel exist in the area of Simon-Dach-Strasse, Wuehlischstrasse, Boxhagener Platz on the other side of Frankfurter Allee. There are a whole bunch of nice bars and restaurants. If you will be in town on a Sunday go to one of these restaurants in the morning (10:30 a.m.) and enjoy their brunch.
If your are looking for souvenirs go to Mondos Arts, Schreinerstrasse 6, just around the corner of your hotel. They offer especially east german souvenirs.

yeah, there are lots of punk squats here but it is a safe place and has the best nightlife in the city

Re: Re: Neighborhood question

o ya, mondo arts is great! also, next to it if you are gay is Offenbar, one of my favorite gay bars in the city with great and friendly people. +
