Thing is, Berlin is such a huge city with so much to do, depending on what your interests are. If you tell us a bit about yourself and your interests, it is easier for us to help you.

I'm still going to tell you what I would do with 3 days in Berlin, had I never been before:

* The Museumsinsel (museum island) and the Berliner Dom. Get a one day pass and spend the day. There are so many museums, so much of the world heritage on display, it's really even too much for one day.

* Alexanderplatz and Fernsehturm. Go up the telly tower and have a cup of coffee and cake, watching Berlin from high up.

* Go visit Kreuzberg, just walk around, do some (window) shopping, find a nice café. Rinse & repeat until tired. (Another alternative is Prenzlauer Berg.)

* Walk down (or up, depending on how you see it) the street Unter den Linden. Visit the Brandenburger Gate (I suppose you have to?). Don't forget the Nikolaiviertel.

* I do believe many tourists go for an evening at Potsdamer Platz. It's nothing special, imho, but people seem to enjoy it.

* If you want to (alt)rock Berlin, perhaps a concert at K17 or thelike would be of interest? Lots of good bands play there, perhaps you'll pick up a new fave?

Here are a few of my favorite memories of visiting Berlin:
1 - walking around interesting neighborhoods like Prenzauer Berg, looking at the old and new buildings and stopping for coffee.
2 - riding a bike across town, through Tiergarten, the Brandenburg Gate, across the river...
3 - stopping for currywurst and a pils
4 - digging deep into 20th century history at one or more of Berlin's great museums: DDR Museum, Deutsches Historisches Museum or Stasi Museum
5 - taking in the brilliant architecture of Sony Center
6 - Selecting a specialty museum and becoming curious again: Bauhaus Archiv, Musem fur Kommunikation, Pergamon museum...
7 - Appreciating the contrasts between old architecture, socialist architecture and everything new going up since the 1990s.
8 - Visiting funky bars and restaurants.

Travel Tips for Berlin

Brandenburger Tor

by Laura_Mexico

Yeah, I know this isn't the prettiest view of Brandenburger Tor.... I personally prefer the view shown by the postcards I purchased during my trip. I know the monuments in Europe very often undergo refurbishment and maintenance works, and this was the case of Brandenburger Tor in 2002.... they were cleaning the monument and thus it was all covered, as you may appreciate in the picture I made.

I was told by people that lived there that the cover of the monument was often changed, and since the Soccer World Cup was taking place at that very time and the Germans are crazy for soccer, they obviously "decorated" it with soccer related motives... so you can see the columns of the monument "covered" with the socks worn by the German national soccer team players... pretty original and fun, but ugly nonetheless!! I wanted to see the monument itself....!! Oh well, I'll have to wait until my next trip to Berlin!

New Synagogue

by yooperprof

The reconstruction of the "New Synagogue" marks another another step in the rebuilding of Jewish life in Germany's capital. The original structure was built in the 1860s to a design by the prominent architect Eduouard Knoblauch. It was partially destroyed on the "Night of Broken Glass," 9 November 1938; damaged further by British and American bombing during the war; and torn down as unsalvagable by the East German authorities in 1958. But in the 1980s it was decided to rebuilt the Synagogue; construction started in 1988 and was completed in 1995.

The New Synagogue now serves as a cultural and education center for the Jewish Community here, and also houses a small museum. The gilded dome is certainly a Berlin landmark.

Running in a beautiful nature

by Karin1S

The Schlachtensee is with a 5.5 km round course an ideal running area.
You can meet a lot of runners (and at the weekend also a lot of dogs) every time - summer or winter.
After your run you can take a cool bath in the clear water of the lake.

Friedrichshain (Boxhagener Platz) Flea market

by miromi

This Flöhmarkt (fleamarket) is held every Sunday through even the most horrible winter Sundays, and is one of the more offbeat and kitschy fleamarkets in Germany. Just take the S Bahn to Warschauer Bahnhof and head on over to Boxhagener Platz. On sale: vinyl techno records, kitschy fashion, paintnigs, genuine junk, and ubiquitous 1960s plastic east German furniture that you will find in most any shared flat in Berlin. It's as good for people watching as it is for shopping, and you will see lots of vampy and sexy Friedrichshain girls with dyed hair, punks from squats, and aging hippies.

Restaurant + Cocktailbar + Events

The balconies could be a perfect place for a romantic evening and a nice tete-a-tete cause there's is just enough place for two.

Good music and a great variety of cocktails.
