Schoenfeld to Berlin centre

by andrew55

If I take the U-bahn from Schoenfeld Airport, which station/s will it stop at in the centre of the city?

Similarly, which station/s does the S-bahn stop at?

S-Bahn and U-Bahn map
The S-Bahn stops at all stations as shown on the map.
The regional trains (shown as a thin red line) will stop at Ostbahnhof, Alexanderplatz, Friedrichstrasse, Hauptbahnhof, Zoologischer Garten, Charlottenburg. As they stop less often they are faster than the S-Bahn.
Schönefeld airport is not connected by U-Bahn. There are however frequent buses to Rudow, the end station of the U-Bahn line U7.

Actually, Berlin does not really have a city center. Or there are two, one in the former east, and one in the former western part of the city.

The area between Alexanderplatz and Friedrichstrasse would be Berlin's center in the east, and Zoologischer Garten and Savignyplatz would be its western sibling.

Skip bus and U-Bahn. Either use the RB22 (Regional Express) or the S9 (S-Bahn).

Travel Tips for Berlin

Museum Island

by dlandt

The Museum Island is a great place in general. It is comprised of five museums The bode Museum (celebrating its grand reopening when I was there with lines around the block so I skipped it) The Altes Museum for antiquities (meaning Greco-Roman or Egyptian), the National Gallery for art (I passed on this one too) and best of all, the Pergamum Museum for a fascinating and unique look at some of the ancient cultures which don't get as much exposure. Close by is a pretty church called the Berliner Dom. I found the museums to be a plesant way to pass a full day but if you are serious about this kind of thing you can easily kill an entire week. The island itself isn't much bigger than the buildings built upon it.

Pedestrian crossing lights

by smirnofforiginal

The green and red men (who sort of resemble Mr Ben) have certainly made their mark and whilst, at one time, Berlin wanted to give them the elbow in place of more "modern" pedestrian crossing lights.... methinks these little guys will still be showing people when to stop and when to walk for a long time yet.

Tegel Lake ("Tegeler See")

by Frankinho

Usually, planes take off in a western direction from Berlin's Tegel Airport (TXL). If they do and if you managed to get into a starboard window seat, you might enjoy to look down onto Tegel Lake ("Tegeler See" in German), which is one of the many lakes in and around Berlin.

On its northern shore, in the Tegel district, you'll find some cruising boats taking you down and up the river Havel (a part of which can be seen in the upper left of the picture), which runs through Berlin's western areas.

You can spend a whole day on these boats and enjoy the Havel. Some of them take you down to "Pfaueninsel" (Peacock Island), which is a lovely small island in the south of Berlin.

I guess you wouldn't have expected that much water and forests if you had spent your time just in the inner city beforehand, would you?

I took this pic heading out of Berlin on an early morning Airberlin flight to Vienna on August 18, 2004.

Friederichstrasse Chocolate Store

by mydreamquest about Chocolate Store

I found this chocolate store to be interesting. I never got the name of the place so if anyone knows please help me. It's close to Checkpoint Charlie.

Thanks to fellow VTer (thanks kimayer), the name of this store is Fassbender & Rausch.

Inside, there is a large Chocolate Brandenburg Tor; Titanic; and Kaiser Wilhelm Cathedral. Chocolate. Between 1 Euro and 1,000 Euro
