This "stone" (Schill-Gedenkstein) is a memorial place for the Prussian hussar Major Ferdinand von Schill. 1809, Major Schill believed that the situation in Brandenburg looked similar scary like the situation of Austria and Westphalia, and that he there for had to come out to fight the French. So for this defense he, with his Hussars regiment, crossed the Havel river. Eventually yet Major Schill & regiment - left alone by their king - died in the fight of Stralsund.
This place of memorial sits right above Geltow's bridge (Baumgartenbruecke) on so called Franzensberg. There's a parking place where visitors can leave their car, and take stairs up the hill.

Geltow is a small city - 1 000 years old - and the oldest among the Schwielowsee districts of Caputh and Ferch. Its squares and streets, its Handweberei-Museum (weaving workshop), and its village church (built according to plans of the unlucky Emperor Frederick III) are absolutely worth a visit!
Geltow is marked by the Havel river, and very inviting for travelers to linger, and just marvel at this city's lovely landscape and Havel river. Geltow's green surroundings def put a spell on visitors.
Geltow is connected (Caputh, Ferch, Potsdam etc.) by one of the busiest ferries of the Havel river, and by the (Baumgarten-) bridge with very comfortable sidewalk.
