Travel Tips for Potsdam

Ruinenberg

by bugulma

In the courtyard of Sanssouci, from place near of entrance, you can enjoy view to Ruinenberg, that is situated on the hill, just in front of Sanssouci Palace. It is water reservoir place for fountains in the park. Besides there are artificial ruins around and that was the reason to get such name to the place. It was built in 1748.

Potsdam's Other Palaces

by DrewV

While Sans Souci, the Nueue Palais, and Cecilienhof get all the press, Potsdam possesses numerous other palaces worthy of investigation.

Since Potsdam was a royal seat, aristocrats and noblemen all over Prussia built palaces in the area, just so that they could be closer to the king's ear.

If the "big" palaces are packed with tourists, check out one of the smaller ones -- you'll have it to yoursefl and will still be impressed.

It is a German answer to the Palace of Versailles! Well, to describe its beauty, one can only use the world ‘fabulous’. Though much smaller than its French counterpart, Sans Souci with its more intimate Rococo style and a number of temples and follies in the Sanssouci Park, is quite a popular destination that have always attracted a huge number of tourists from all parts of the world.

The Neues Palais was built between 1763 and 1769, it is said to be the most beautiful palace in Germany. It is a Baroque palace built on the main avenue of the park. It is a large three winged two storey building with more than 200 rooms.

The Brandenburger Tor of Potsdam

by himalia11

Not only Berlin has a Brandenburger Tor, Potsdam has one also! But it looks completely different and actually is older than the Berlin one. It was built in the eary 18th century and looks like a Roman triumphal arch. There were two people (von Gontard and Unger) who built it, each of them building one side so that both sides look differently.
