In 1851-1864 the orangerie was built. In accordance with the wish of Friedrich Wilhelm IV it has classic Italian style. In winter it is closed for tour inside and you can enjoy interior only from April until October. As the internet site says it is possible to go upstairs to the tower.
The area around, just south of Berlin in the region called Barndeburg is a flat sandy land densely covered by oak trees. I had the impression it would be nice to take a long walk on the paths in the wood.
When you come out of the main railway station and start walking towards city the first building on your right would be impressive St Nicholas church.
When I was there, its surrounding had turned to a building site.
The Dutch quarter developed in the 18th Century, when Dutch workers arrived in Potsdam. There are a large number of Dutch style houses in a large square, right in the centre of Potsdam. Nowadays, the Dutch Quarter is the heart of the city, with many shops and restaurants in the area.
Potsdam has one too! It's not as impressive as its namesake in Berlin, but Potsdam's Brandenburg gate is well worth a photo. It stands at the head of Brandenburger Strasse, near the entrance to Park Sanssouci.
