"Ein Bilderbuchstädtchen - nicht nur für Verliebte"
Most people will know this little town because of its castle, which was home for Prince Heinrich and his famous brother Friedrich II. for some years of their lives. So most tourists will come here to visit the castle. What I liked more in this small town was to wander around... through the castle gardens, along the lakeside, through little streets and last but not least thorugh the forest.
"Lakes, lakes and lakes"
Around Rheinsberg, which still is part of Brandenburg, not Mecklenburg, you will find many many lakes. Some bigger, some smaller, but all situated in a green countryside with large forrestgrounds around. Heaven for bicycle tours or boat trips. Not to forget to have some fresh fish from some of the local fishermen. Yummy!
"Old and new"
What I really liked about Rheinsberg is, that are some relicts from the old GDR days, like fences, unrenovated houses, old soviet cemetaries, sandy footpaths etc...... These are hard to find in these days I think, and me, as I knew the old days, kind of interesting. History is even visable inside the castles walls. My friend used to work inside the castle when it was used as a sanatorium, which made my visit even more interesting.
