Here are some more places that are worth a visit when being in this region:

Wetzlar (11 km) and Weilburg (12 km): two other nice medieval cities, at the river Lahn. Also there’s a little but interesting crystal cave in Weilburg.

Solm-Oberbiel: Grube Fortuna (11 km), where you can explore a mine with a guided tour.

Greifenstein (20 km): nice castle ruins with a bell museum.

Freienfels (12 km): little castle ruins, and famous for its huge medieval festival each year around May 1st.

Braunfels is a charming town in the north of the Taunus (low mountain range). It's located between Limburg and Gießen, and just about 11 km from Wetzlar and 12 km from Weilburg.
Most popular in Braunfels is the castle that looks like from a fairy tale. Below the castle you'll find the medieval town center which is not big but has several nice old half-timbered houses. Also, there's a park where you can enjoy a walk or just relax on one of the benches.

Braunfels is a beauty german town that has an impressive castle. This castle is inhabited by the same family as centuries ago, so you only will be allowed to visit a section with a person as a guide. I recommend that you do it.
