Architecture - Alte Oper
by yooperprof
Frankfurt's old opera house was destroyed during the Second World War, but underwent a complete reconstruction that returned the exterior it to its Wilhelmine (late 19th century) glory.
Berlin Architect Richard Lucae had based his plans upon the famous Dresden Opera. The surrounding streets include some of Frankfurt's most elegant boutiques and cafes.
Party in Frankfurt
by Carino
During the World Cup 2006, Germany had the chance to show a new face. They have been host of the WC06 and they did a good job. Especially the Koreans enjoyed this athmosphere and contributed their part to the party!
Kickers Offenbach
by bonio
OK so not strictly in Frankfurt but, if Eintracht have an away game and you fancy watching a football match Kickers Offenbach is your solution. Just a 15 minute ride on the S-Bahn to Offenbach Süd station then follow the crowds up the hill to Bieberer Berg stadion. We saw a DFB cup 1st round game against 1FC Köln from the 1Bundesliga.and consicering that Kickers have only just been promoted to 2 Bundesliga a 3-1 home win was a great result for them. At €8.50 for a terrace team it's cheaper than watching my local team in the UK, and they play in a standard many leagues below.
When we talk about the modern...

When we talk about the modern side of Frankfurt, we cannot miss a phenomenon of graffity, painting which value is quite doubtful in my humble opinion. C'est la vie - it seems to be a speciality of modern city, its mandatory attribute...
I found this graffity in Harheim, when I was getting to train station...
Frankfurter Welle
by Nemorino
Behind the old opera house (Alte Oper) there is a new complex of buildings called the Frankfurter Welle, which means the Frankfurt Wave, so called because one of the central buildings is shaped like a wave.
There are lots of offices here, of course, but also restaurants and cafes, a fitness center, some art galleries, a piano store and various other shops.
In the second photo, which I took from the top of the Main Tower, you can see the wavy shape of the central building of the Frankfurter Welle. Along part of this wavy building they have constructed a stream which is supposed to represent a real stream that once existed here, before it was diverted into an underground pipe many years ago.
