We will be in Frankfurt in late September. Are there any nice river cruises that are day trips?

For day tours on the Rhine you can check here:
http://www.k-d.com/englisch/index.html Main season is until October, it's easy to get to the Rhine from Frankfurt, public transport is very good.
For short boat tours on the Main in Frankfurt look here:

I haven't found an English version, though.

From Frankfurt take the train to one of the many towns along the Rhine (Wiesbaden or Bacharach)From the town walk down to the River. The cruise are right there and it's fairly easy. Do walk around these towns, especially Bacharach, St. Goar, etc. You can get off at each town if you like. But you should research and decide which ones you want get off. The cruise can go as far as Koln. Koln has a great catheral. You can train back from Koln to Frankfurt. It's a very direct route.

River cruises starting from Frankfurt are not worthwhile. I am amazed that there are any at all. Even with lots of goodwill this stretch of the river Main can hardly be considered interesting. It does not compare at all to the above mentioned Rhine gorge.

Tourist Information

If you're like me and travel city-to-city with no hotel reservations, a tourist information booth can come in handy. In Frankfurt, you can find one centrally located in the main market square next to the Roemer.

I had heard that Frankfurt was trade center of germany but I surprised when saw it for first time. Why? Please read below: Centre of trade:
The city's reputation is international. It is focal point of business, metropolis of commerce. Groups and multinational companies conquer new markets from their base in Frankfurt. Largest and excellent buildings belong to banks. Foreigners haunt so much. In certain period of day for example from 7:45 up to 10, the traffic is too heavy. Chain stores such as C&A roll out all over the city. Unfortunately, because of my camera lens limitation that cannot get picture in large area, I could not get fantastic photos of these buildings.

We bought ice-cream at the outdoor kiosk of a restaurant near the Alte Oper and sat down at one of their many outdoor tables and chairs but were shooed off. We were told we are not allowed to sit down unless we are ordering from the menu. We learned that this is common in Europe whereby the sit-down dining charge and takeaway charge is very different. Culture shock to us is that such thing does not happen in Asia - as long as one bought something from a restaurant, we are definitely allowed to sit at their chairs and table.
Ride your bike along the River Main
by amyhenderson
To get straight into FFM life and culture, the best way to get around is by bike. Bike paths everywhere and the traffic totally respects cyclists.
On the North side of the River Main is a cycle path that follows the river for more than 30km. Its beautiful scenery, good exercise and a real insight into life in Frankfurt.
This was my very favourite weekend activity while living in Frankfurt. Do it, you won't be disappointed!
Laternenpfad Heppenheim
by MichaelFalk1969
A great attraction of Heppenheim (roughly 1 hour south of Frankfurt) is the "Laternenpfad" - street lamps all over the city depicting tales from Hessian folk lore, especially nice when seen illuminated in the evening. The guided tours along the "Laternenpfad" are highly recommended though I`m not sure if they offer tours in English, too.
