Re: Weihnachtspyramide

I presume you are looking for one you can carry. Your best bet would be to hit the Xmas Market in Frankfurt (http://www.germany-insider-facts.com/frankfurt-christmas-market.html) There are many shops selling similar products. We were not specifically looking for one when we were there last year so I can't say for sure, but this would be my first stop. Karl

Travel Tips for Frankfurt am Main

City Center

by Peter_P

For me Frankfurt is one of the most interesting German cities. Certainly during summertime. As for your running, indeed take the walkpath along the river, or the 'green zones' through the city. There is always something to do : either a festival, animation,... in the center, near Romer.
Have fun !

Take a look at the Palmengarten. It is not very far from the city centre and the Main River, but it is a great place to unwind. What impressed me the most about this botanical garden were its vegetation and landscaping. It also has a sizeable pond and minigolf for those that are not interested in the greenhouses and such.

Bembel

by Weissdorn

This fat-bellied pitcher is called a Bembel. It is the traditional stoneware pitcher in which apple wine is served. The origin of the name is not really known, but you usually won't see them outside of Hesse, and in other German states they may not even know what they are.

They come in all sizes - from ½ to 3 liter size. The Hessians have their own colloquial phrases for them, so you can order like the locals as follows:

Bembel-shaw = ½ liter
Oy! = 1 liter
Oy-yoy! = 1-½ liters
Oy-yoy-yoy! = 2 liters
Oy-yoy-yoy-yoy! = 3 liters

Archeological gardens

by Polly74

The Archaeological Gardens, situated between city hall, cathedral and Schirn Art Hall, feature various excavations commenced in 1953. These diggings have uncovered part of a Roman settlement, a Roman sauna as well as the foundations of a Carolingian chapel.

Neues Theater Höchst

by Nemorino

This "New Theater" in the far-western Frankfurt district of Höchst is one of the area's leading venues for cabaret, comedy and variety shows.

The sensational young singer Sabine Fischmann often performs here, either with her own band or with various groups such as "The New Frankfurt School Orchestra" or the Frankfurt Spring Collection.

The latter group also appears with soprano Ingrid El Sigai, who is a regional television announcer and a mainstay of the Frankfurt Kammeroper.

Both Fischmann and El Sigai are members of the hilarious Trio Kujon, which also appears regularly at the New Theater.

Of course you have to understand German for this sort of performance.
