Re: Price of tickets

Re: Price of tickets

Along the same lines..... How long does the train take? I have a 9hr layover when I travel through there early nest year. Will that be enough time to go in for the day???

Re: Price of tickets

An S-Bahn ride to Hauptwache takes 20 minutes.
If I recall correctly, Hauptwache station was closest to the main sights.

Nine hours are plenty I dare say.

Re: Price of tickets

To Frankfurt HBf (central station) it takes 11 mins.

Re: Price of tickets

by krissyM

With the train ride only ~15 minutes each way, yes, 9 hours should be plenty!!!

Thanks for your responses and sorry Colosality1 for comandeering your forum question :)

From the regional train station (basement of Terminal 1) you'll need 11 minutes to Hauptbahnhof (main railway station) and 15 minutes to Hauptwache (central stop in the city centre).

Single ticket is EUR 3,60. Day ticket EUR 8,90.
These are zone-to-zone tickets covering all local public transport. You can travel to any destination inside Frankfurt on them using whatever combination of local public transport you need. Covered are:
- regional trains (RB, RE)
- S-Bahn
- U-Bahn (metro)
- trams
- buses

Travel Tips for Frankfurt am Main

See the Alte Oper -...

See the Alte Oper - Frankfurt's Opera House
This is a beautiful building that is well proportioned and looks good at any angle. It has an impressive facade with a beautiful fountain in front. See the pix, don't you agree? My fondest memory of Frankfurt is the people who were unexpectedly friendly and helpful to the two blur queens (friend and me) trying to get to places around town. Despite trying our darnest to look cool and knowledgeable (you know the #1 advice always given to female travellers - 'Do not look blur'?), we still emit the hopelessly clueless expression on our faces. We met wonderful people who told us to visit ROMER, the old part of Frankfurt, helped us to buy the train tickets, point us to which train to take and told us a bit of the history of Frankfurt. The care and concern given to us by friendly strangers were really heart-warming and unforgettable!!

Goethe's birth...

by joh28

Goethe's birth house was acquired in 1733 by Goethe's Grandmother, the hostess of the Weidenhof ('Pasture Yard') guest house on the Zeil, who later became Mrs. Cornelia Goethe. In 1755, Goethe's father did extensive remodeling to the house, which was formerly two houses, a larger and an attached smaller one.

The resulting building was a house with a totally new appearance, although old sections of the larger old house were still to be seen in the new building. Goethe himself wrote in 'Dichtung und Wahrheit', that his father took great pains to ensure the construction was seen as a remodeling rather than new construction, since he wanted to preserve the two overhangs which were no longer allowed since the codes of 1719 and 1749, which only allowed one overhang for new construction

The façade shows minimal baroque ornamentation. With exception of the gable-work, it is fundamentally a house similar to the medieval half-timbered houses common throughout the city, but with a special elegance and balance effected by its rows of large symmetrical windows.

Literatur Haus (Literary House) Frankfurt am Main

by icunme

An impressive calendar of literary events in a beautiful building. Check their pamphlet for listing of events - German language.

The main objective of the Literaturhaus Frankfurt is to familiarise the public with new works and new developments in contemporary international literature. For eleven years the literature house Frankfurt has organized readings, literary exhibitions, conferences and discussions approximately around the book topic but I see also film exhibitions and discussions on the schedule.

International writers of world renown have appeared here in the mansion since the opening in January 1991. Guests have included Cees Nooteboom, Antonio Lobo Antunes, Javier Mar¡as, Margriet de Moor, Friederike Mayroecker and Elfriede Jelinek here already read.

Also childen's book readings are offered, every two months and known as "child book Sunday."

During the book fair the house is at the disposal of the respective host country for readings and meetings.

The Café restaurant is a popular meeting place for not only the Frankfurt publishing house and film scene but the general population.

The representative areas of the mansion can be rented for press conferences, celebrations and other events.

The literature house Frankfurt is a registered association. Sponsors, promoters and 740 members of the literature house association make the program work possible by their donations and membership dues. The city of Frankfurt supports the association financially and sponsors their work through the use of this beautiful mansion in the westend.

Schone Aussicht 2

The best Open Air museum in Hessen, with ensembles of pretty half-timbered houses from all over Hessen. Reenactors perform long-forgotten crafts and answer questions. Great place for families.

Located in the Taunus area (Neu-Anspach, near Bad Homburg).

One of the big trade centers

by mirchica about My Zeil

This is a shopping complex located on Zeil in a nice office complex with a hotel also. It’s glass with the shape of a vortex. The interior is even more spectacular with irregularly shaped ramps and glass columns.
