When you are in Frankfurt and you want to use the subway - this includes the rail link from the Airport to the city - do not forget to purchase a ticket from the ticket vending machines. You can not buy tickets once you are in the subway, and while you might be lucky to get a conductor who will sell you a normal ticket or just ignore the case if you are obviosuly a foreigner, they are generally known for their lack of compassion and humour. If you get caught without a ticket, they'll charge you 40 Euros. I have seen this many time on my way to or from work. It's really not worth the headache.If you do not know how to operate the vending machines - they can be a little confusing when you don't know them - ask someone. Especially at the airport.
