Ebbelwoi - Love It or Hate It
by Kathrin_E
Ebbelwoi is the local drink - apple wine, cider. You'll either like it or hate it - be warned , it is not sweet at all. It takes a while to get used to it, the first sip tastes terrible, but after the second glass you'll love it forever...
Ebbelwoi is ordered and served in a Bembel (a grey pottery jar with blue pattern). They come in different sizes: 2, 4, 6, 8... The number indicates how many glasses of Ebbelwoi the jar contains. The typical Ebbelwoi glasses have a chequered pattern and hold 0.25 litres. For a party of 4 adults (the stuff has more alcohol than beer, thus is not for children) I'd order a 6er Bembel and a bottle of sparkling water.
It is common and totally acceptable to pour a splash of sparkling water into the apple wine to make the drink more refreshing. This is called "Sauergespritzter" ("splashed sour") and especially great on hot days. Some people prefer it as "Süßgespritzter" ("splashed sweet"), i.e. a splash of sweet lemonade added.
Frankfurt Galaxy
by bonio
A trip out to the Waldstadion to watch Galaxy defeat Barcelona 15 - 13 on a freezing cold evening. A very contentios penalty descision took the Galaxy within field goal range with just a few seconds on the clock, their German kicker made no mistake to send the fans home happy. Felt a little sorry for the Dragons, they looked the better team to me and other results this season tend to agree. Maybe the two will meet again in the Worldbowl, time will tell.
Sadly the Frankfurt Galaxy and the NFL Europe are no more, 2007 was the last season.
Opel Zoo - Kronberg
by MichaelFalk1969
The town of Kronberg/Taunus has a small zoo that is very busy to compete with the Frankfurt Zoo. A major attraction will be the newly built "African Plains" enclosure with giraffe, wildebeest, and zebras, soon to be opened. The zoo is eager to rebuild some enclosures according to modern standards and has come quite a long way so far.
Idstein

Visit Idstein (check travelogue for 12 pix) ... Quite romantic and small village crowded with these nice buildings you can see in the pic; the stripes on these buildings' facades are not painted, they are made of wood and the whole building structure relies on those ... great view in a sunny afternoon.
Idstein is more or less 1 hour by car from Frankfurt.
