I will be landing in Frankfurt Airport on a Sunday. I will be taking a train from the airport to Franksufurt Main Train Station to transit to my final destination - Saalfeld.
I would like to know, 1) Can I buy train ticket on the ICE / Train on the train itself? 2) Are the train ticket office close on Sunday at the Airport or Frankfurt Main Train Station? 3) If there are (for example) 2 changes between Frankfurt Main Train Station and my final destination, how do I know which stations to drop down and change ICE/train?
Cheers!
FP
You can find timetables here:
http://www.boutiquesrilanka.com/
From: FRA (Frankfurt Airport)
To: Saalfeld
One-way tickets are available from EUR 29 when booked (online) well in advance (max 89 day)
1) You can't buy tickets on the train. You will have to buy from either ticket office of from ticket machines.
2) The ticket office is open on Sundays.
3) Click on '>' in the timetable and you can see details for your connection (when/where to change).
I usually buy my tickets ahead of time at the official Die Ghttp://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en?newrequest=yes&protocol=http:&
You can see all your transfers and sometimes get cheaper fares if done ahead.
You need to be careful if a regional train comes before an IC train, as the regional trains tend to run a bit late, and the IC tend to be a bit early - it's easy to miss the connection. This is not a big problem as long as you don't miss the last train for that day, as usually you can just hop on the next train - when that happens I usually walk down to the office to confirm.
> 1) You can't buy tickets on the train.
From what I know, you can buy tickets on IC or ICE trains if you are willing to pay extra handling fee. Note I did not include regional trains.
I'd suggest to book online.
Booking online is a good idea if you can find cheap fares (which are only available in advance, and limited), but it does limit you to the train for which you have booked. If you or your flight is delayed and you miss the train I am not sure if you can get a refund for the cheapest fares, and you will thus have to pay more (if not buy a new ticket altogether) for a later train.
The Frankfurt airport railway station is clearly signed within the airport, and there are ticket machines with English language options as well as a ticket office with English-speaking staff. You will have no difficulty in finding the station or obtaining tickets.
My preferred bahn.de link is:
http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml
which will not only give you all train times and fares but also tell you exactly which platform the train will arrive at/leave from and how long you have to make any changes. Click 'show details for all' to see this information. Enter Frankfurt Flughafen into the searchbox to ensure that you get train times from the airport station.

Cider - Apple Wine, is very popular in Frankfurt. Very nice drink I should say. I loved it. The German word for it is Apfelwein.
It's traditionally served in a pitcher made of gray clay and decorated with blue glaze designs.
This years race will take place on 14 September 2003 and starts at 5pm Everyone can join the race. I think you can also sign up on the day of the race. After I missed it last year I definitely want to run this time.
It is a 5 km run as well as a 5 km walk. Don't forget your running shoes :-)))
The Rothschild Park is an urban oasis close to the center of Frankfurt. It's on the grounds of what was once the villa belonging to the Mayer Rothschild, of the great banking dynasty. It's just off Reuterweg, a few minutes stroll from the Opern-platz.
The "Schwanheimer Düne" is a dune landscape in the south-west of Frankfurt and a nature reserve since 1984. This dune not related to the sea-coast is a rare geological phenomenon due to the shifting of quarzite sand from the Main river during the late ice age. Two hiking paths lead through the reserve, partly covered with planks. The dunes are home to many rare plants and animals.
The easiest way to get there is by cycling from the suburb of Höchst. Take the Main ferry in Höchst, then turn left until you get to a bridge, turn sharp right there and follow the green bicycle signs from here.
