City Wall Gardens
by yooperprof
In the Middle Ages, Frankfurt was a walled city - beginning its status as an Imperial Center. But after the Napoleonic Wars - and the end of the Holy Roman Empire - the walls were clearly superfluous, and they were dismantled. In their place, in the early 19th century the city leaders created a necklace of green spaces where the fortifications had previously stood. These gardens are one of the most pleasant and attractions of the 21st century city, providing welcome relief from the urban hurly-burly beyond.
Frankfurt Architecture
by mikey_e
Frankfurt may not have the advantage of a long history of artistic and architectural creativity, but it has long been a wealthy city, and the rich like to build beautiful buildings. In recent years, the city has not kept up with places like Moscow, Miami, London or Dubai in encouraging cutting-edge design, but it has made a notable effort to preserve traditional styles and its architectural history. In particular, Römerberg and the surrounding area showcase the sort of traditional Gothic homes associated with Germany, which the areas near the Hauptwache contain a richer display of neo-Classical and neo-Renaissance structures. Willy Brandy Platz is where visitors can find greater examples of modern architecture, although the emphasis at this stage appears to have been on functionality rather than beauty.
Great views of the city
by Ewingjr98
Some of the best views of the city are from the 6-story shopping center on the Ziel near the Hauptwashe. On the top floor there is an outdoor biergarten with an observation platform. Located in the Zielgalerie at Ziel 111 next to Kaufhof. Go in the front doors and up the escalators to the top.
Gallustheater
by Nemorino
This is a small theater in the Gallus district of Frankfurt, in a building that used to house the Adler motorcycle and typewriter factory.
It's near my office, but I'm sure I would go there even if it were off on the other side of town someplace. It's especially exciting of course if I know the people who are performing, like soprano Ingrid El Sigai or dancer Silke Wiegand. Even the Kammeroper sometimes does small opera productions here in the wintertime, when it's to cold to perform outdoors in the Palmengarten.
For their 2008/2009 season the Gallustheater again has a full program of dance, cabaret and experimental theater -- and children's theater mornings and afternoons.

Missing Vegemite?
by christine.j about Australian Shop
For those who are either planning a trip to Australia and who are looking for good maps and books, or for those Australians who are getting homesick and missing their vegemite, there is an Australian shop in Frankfurt.
I looked around, bought an Australian Mango tea and admired the koalas, either on pictures or as stuffed toys.
