Round, Modern and Blue

On the way from the airport, my taxi driver pointed the hotel from me from a distance: big, blue, round, disk-shaped, with blue glass walls. The architecture was unusual, and inside the design was modern and friendly-looking.

I enjoyed ny stay in the Radisson Blu. The room was medium-sized and very comfortable. The mattress was hard, but I like it this way. Everything functioned properly, and the elevators were fast and efficient. I had breakfast and dinner in the hotel Gaia Restaurant on the ground floor, the food was very good and the service was friendly.

There is a gym and small swimming pool on the top floor, with a nice view of Frankfurt's skyline. The pool is hardly big enough to swim in, but you can activate a strong water counter-current and swim against it without actually moving.

As for the hotel's location: It's right near the highway (route 648), so it's very convenient for motorists. It is only a 15 minute drive to /from the airport. It is also not far from the Frankfurt Messe convention center (one stop by S-bahn). On the other hand, getting from the hotel to central Frankfurt is not so convenient. It's a good 10 minute walk to the nearest S-Bahn station (Frankfurt-West), from where you can take the S3, S4, S5 or S6 lines to the city center (5 stops to the Hauptwache station).

A decent business hotel near the Frankfurter Messe

My husband stayed here on a business trip in April 2011. The modern design & architecture of the building are truly unique: this is the only completely round and all-glass hotel in Europe. This design allows panoramic views of the cityscape and Taunus Mountain countryside from the floor-to-ceiling windows in their 428 rooms or suites. This one of the many business-themed hotels near the Frankfurter Messe (exhibition grounds) and within each walking distance.

The lobby and general interiors of the hotel are very "hip" and modern, with a funky undertone. All rooms and common areas include free, high-speed Internet access, flat-screen LCD televisions, tea and coffee provisions, and minibars. The room was clean and comfortable. Bathroom was modern with all amenities; although one strange feature was the small window allowing a view from the bedroom into the bathroom....? Not quite sure what the purpose of that window is.

Unique Quality: The breakfast was quite nice and what you'd expect from a business hotel buffet. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, with good knowledge of English as well. They were able to give some great tips about nearby restaurants, shopping venues and nightlife as well.

My husband was especially pleased and thrilled that their "WunderBAR" Lounge is actually listed in the Whisky Guide, boasting a very good selection of some of Scotland's best single malts :-)

In general, this was a very pleasant hotel and my husband says he would stay here again for sure, especially if he were to travel for business. It was nothing "extra ordinary", but comfortable and convenient nonetheless and a good option in central Frankfurt.
However, if you are looking for a hotel with more history and "soul", there are some nicer options closer to the Old Town.

Weekend rate

The Radisson is a vibrant new hotel, a bit hard to find, but otherwise a decent location when taking a tram. The lobby area has a lounge area with glowing strings of blue lights that stream from the high ceiling to just behind the seating, this creates an interesting mood and could be fun to relax in. Also, the hole has an infinity pool, its not very big and not really for relaxing, more for exercise.

***One thing to look forward to is the weekend rates which are substantially lower than weekday rates. This is due to the business constructs of the city.

What the website says:

-All 428 rooms offer high-quality amenities and come in four different room styles: At home, Chic, Fashion and Fresh.
Free Broadband including high-speed and wireless Internet access is available throughout the hotel.

-Guests have access to our state-of-the-art fitness centre with all its invigorating offerings including excellent views of Frankfurt.

-The lobby bar's focal point is a free-hanging glass wine tower, while the COAST Brasserie & Oyster Bar brings with it a feel of the Pacific.

-Restaurant Gaía serves sophisticated Mediterranean cuisine and the WUNDER BAR Lounge offers excellent drinks in an oasis of calm.

-Our 1,000 sq metres of conference facilities are designed to exceed expectations and serve most meetings and conference needs.
