Need hotel at airport in Frankfurt

by HenriettaStackpole

Hello, could you please recommend a hotel at the Frankfurt airport (or close with a free shuttle)?

I am looking for something very simple, hopefully under 60 euro. We have a 12 hour layover overnight and just need a place to sleep and shower before getting back to the airport for an early morning flight.

Thanks!

Thank you for the reply, Pedmar. Are the hotels you mention very close to the airport or do they provide a free shuttle?

Thanks again for the most helpful information!

Hello,

hotel Ibis Frankfurt Airport offers a free shuttle service. Double rooms are available from 49 Euros:

The last few times I had to stay overnight at the airport, I stayed at this Mercure hotel:

A word of caution. There are a few Mercure hotels around but to my knowledge only this one offers a shuttle service to and from the airport so be sure to book this one if go through a provider for reservations

They offer a free shuttle that you catch just to the left as you exit the airport. The shuttle comes every 20 minutes. Last time I paid 59 euros. It is a 4-star hotel so service and rooms are better than at Ibis.

What's going on in and around Frankfurt?

I have just learnt about a new page on the Internet. Here you find a lot of info about Frankfurt as well as it's surroundings. The page is available in English and German. I really like the leisure/gastronomy part as it gives tips for the whole Rhein-Main area.

Green Sauce - Try It, You'll Like It!

by Weissdorn

The very first time I ordered this dish, my first thought was, "Oh my God! The cook barfed on my plate!" Let's face it, genuine Frankfurter Green Sauce doesn't look appetizing, but it tastes FANTASTIC. Just like guacamole, green sauce is a cold sauce that is usually served with boiled potatoes and pickeled meat or hard boiled eggs.
It tastes so good, that it's even rumored that it was Johann von Goethe's favorite dish. Real Frankfurter Green Sauce is made from at least 7 herbes, including parsely, chives, dill, chervil, pumpernickel, sorrel and borageo. Then they add fresh plain yoghurt, curds (cottage cheese), sour creme, a dab of mayonaise and a spoon full of mustard and a touch of horse radish, plus salt and pepper and a dash of white wine vinegar.

Once you try it, you'll never forget it, and now I committed a Frankfurter crime - I spilled the beans and told you the receipe.

Holzhausen Park- a little green gem!

by jamiema

Near to where my aunt lives in the centre of Frankfurt, on Holzhausenstrasse, you will find a beautiful little park, which as yet remains unspoiled by mass tourism, unlike some of the larger parks in the city. I love to go there when we visit in spring and summer, when the sun is shining, it's really relaxing to lie down under the green trees, maybe have a picnic, or play with the family or friends. Alternatively, I have it on good authority that it's a great place to go alone with a book and while away the hours under a plane tree or a lime. The park's not huge, so on particularly hot days it can get a little crowded with German schoolchildren, but usually they stick to the playground area. The park is a short walk from the U-Bahn station at Glauburgstrasse (U5).

The Rehearsal Stage in Roedelheim

by Nemorino

From the photo you might get the impression that this is just some kind of nondescript warehouse.

In fact, it is just a nondescript warehouse and there is absolutely no reason for anybody to go and see it -- unless you happen to be an opera singer rehearsing for a new production at the Frankfurt Opera, in which case you might find yourself coming here twice a day, mornings and evenings, for the first four to five weeks of your six-week rehearsal period.

The only reason for rehearsing in this inconvenient and unattractive building is that the floor space is roughly the size of the real opera stage, so you can rehearse on a scale of one to one. With piano accompaniment only, of course.

To get here:
If you are fortunate enough to be living in Eschersheim, take the S6 for just one stop (4 minutes on the train) to Frankfurt-West. Walk back along the tracks, over the pedestrian bridge and then straight ahead to number 13A, which is the last building on the left, next to a huge vacant lot that has recently come into being because some old buildings were torn down.
If you are coming from the city center you could also take the U6 or U7 to Kirchplatz and walk from there.
(The pedestrian bridge also has long curving ramps on both sides, so it is easy to negotiate on a bicycle.)

Nordwestzentrum shopping center

by Nemorino

The unusual thing about this shopping center is that is not located out in the pampas someplace, but right in Frankfurt, so it is easily accessible even to the non-motorized majority of the population. From my house it is an easy ten-minute bicycle ride, twelve if I take the scenic route along the banks of the Nidda.

And for all you die-hard minority members there is even a huge parking garage in the basement, so you don't have to shake your addiction just yet.

They've got all the usual shops (over 120 according to their website), including two bookshops by the way.

The place is often very crowded so they have built an additional section which was finished at the end of 2004.
