Schloss Hirschhorn: A quaint Castle and more
Excellent castle hotel with great food. Please see the posting "Sleeping in a castle" for an more complete description. There is good train service every 1/2 hour from Heidelberg. A 26 minute ride. If I recall, contact the hotel for pick-up arrangements but, that was some time ago. Now you may need a taxi. We were there first in 1980 and several times since. Well worth a visit for a quiet relaxing stay.
A unique location with an overview of the Neckar river valley with view of ships passing through the locks and trains passing along the river. Very relaxing view from the room or from the castle sun deck.

Schloss Hirschhorn: Sleeping in a castle
This hotel is set in a lovely castle, on a hill above the medieval village of Hirschhorn. There are 8 rooms in the castle (double rooms, castle suites and honeymoon suite), and 17 double rooms in an annex building (the old stables).
We had a castle suite which was very spacious with a sitting corner, TV, minibar and annex bathroom with shower. Our room (as all the other rooms in the castle) had a splendid view over the Neckar valley and the village. In the morning a full breakfast was served.
The restaurant in the castle serves excellent food, not the average German dinner. There is also a terrace where you can enjoy a German beer or some typical German white wine during the day with another excellent view over the river.
The staff was always very friendly and helpful.
From the castle there is a path (stairs) leading to the village, and outside the castle walls there are several walking paths into the Odenwald (woods).
More pics of the castle can be found in my travelogue.
