Looking North to Hercules Monument
Go and check out the 'Herkules' When I was little I was always fascinated with this monument. I don't know what it was, I just had to keep looking for it while I was strolling through the streets of Kassel. I think I really liked it because you could see it way up there above the city and it was humongous!
Another attraction in Kassel-Wilhelmshoehe:
Built in between 1793 to 1806, the Lions Castle (Loewenburg) was built as an imitation of a mediavel knight's castle... deliberately built as a ruin.
It now houses a collection of old weapons and china.
Im Herbst 2001 habe ich vier Monate in Kassel studiert. Ich kehrte im August 2002 zurueck, um Forschung ueber die Euroeinstellung zu machen. Ich moechte bald wieder Deutschland besuchen und vielleicht in der Zukunft dort wohnen.
Kassel is an interesting city although it doesn't look like much at first sight. It was bombed heavily during the second world war, so not much of the old-style architecture remains today. The original city was built in the Baroque style, and some of the original strutures such as the Oranangerie and the palace sitll stand. Atop the hill overlooking the city is the Hercules monument, from which a water an impressive water fountain runs down the hill to the pool in front of the palace, Schloss Wilhelmshoehe. Housed inside is Europe's second largest collection or Rembrants and works from other prominent artists such as Reubens. Kassel is also the site of many cultural events. Every five years, one of the stages of the Documenta, a world-famous art exhibition, takes place in Kassel. If you're really bored (or have a weird obsession with walls) there's a wallpaper museum, which features...Wallpaper!! The Brothers Grimm lived and taught in Kassel and there's a museum devoted to them in Kassel. More to come...
