If you cycle upstream from Kassel on regional bicycle route R1 by the Fulda River, you can get to places like Rotenburg an der Fulda and Bad Hersfeld.
About 32 kilometers downstream from Kassel the Fulda River joins with the Werra to form the Weser, which eventually flows into the North Sea near Bremerhaven.

We visited Kassel with some German friends who live nearby. It's quite a nice town, I thinkwe could've spent another day or two, but we were limited, so we packed it all into one day.
There are several attractions, which I'll describe in greater detail in the Things to Do section. The long street down the centre of town had some great shopping! I wanted to ride on the trolley, but for some reason we didn't. Oh well, maybe next time!
