Strange object in the streets
... what is this? Another thing for waste separation? Looks very strange. What can one do with it? ........................................................................
It is a bicycle stand! Did you knew? I even have no idea how to put a bicycle in it ...
High water plate
This plate shows how high the water of the river Lahn has been. It's interesting to stand in front of this plate and see how high the water has come sometimes! There's quite often high water, but the last years it hadn't been that high so that it is not shown on the plate. But in the year of 1984, on May 31st (my birthday!), the water was exceptional high, and therefore called hundred year flood. You can see the dat quite high on the plate!
You'll find the plate at the left side of river Lahn, at the path below the cathedral. It's some steps downriver of restaurant Obermühle.
Repaired timbered house
This house in the steet Fahrgasse is quite interesting as it shows how you can repair a timbered house. Often enough the wooden beams of the old houses cause problems. Here, the bad wood has been replaced by steel beams. It's an interesting way of reconstructing. Of course a timbered house with real wood beams looks much better, but the optic of this solution is not that bad.
House of the seven vices
The so-called "house of the 7 vices" was build 1567 and is known for the wooden heads on it. They represent the seven vices: arrogance, stinginess, envy, unchastity, crapulence, rage and idleness (from right to left). It's not so easy to recognize what means what...
The house is found near the old bridge. When you come from the old bridge and enter the old town, it's on the left side at the next corner (address is Brückengasse 9).
You'll easily miss the house as it really needs some renovation. It was very funny when I took the photo as people who passed suddenly stopped and took a look at the house, too.
Set in the Lahn valley, along the Lahn River Limburg boasts a timber-framed core which is preserved as an historic monument.
The former tollbridge (Lahnbruke) is testament to the days when Limburg was a rich merchant town.
