Loreley - Camping in St.Goar: A lot of camp-grounds along the Rhine

Just opposite of the famous Loreley-rock you may find a campgroud.

The Loreley is about 40 Km downstream from Ruedesheim.
In the old legends there is a young lady sitting on top of the rock, singing and combing her hair...
...many sailors lost their lifes, when they started to watch that lady instead of concentrating on the river.

In fact this part of the Rhine is the most dangerous and traficlights for ships will regulate the one-way-trafic there.

Camping close to the river Rhine might be dangerous, as floods happen eventually several times a year.
I remember plenty of campgrounds with Caravans inside the water, when I was working for KD-German Rhinelines in 1980.

Hotel&Restaurant Inges Malkasten: a cheap hotel in Kamp-Bonnhofen

We found this small hotel accidentally, directely on the mainroad through Kamp-Bornhofen.
At night, there is almost no cartrafic, and also the train is running in quite a distance, so you will NOT hear it in the night.

For a singleroom with private facilities we payed 29 Euros, an excellent breakfast included.
The rooms are nice, but simple, and without TV.
Showers were hot all the time, although we had been the only guests.
We had dinner in the Hotel-restaurant and I have to say it was one of the best meals I had in the area !
The nice lady offered even a free appetizer - a large leave of cabbage, filled with vegetables.
I had venison and my mother roasted cheese - the portion was finally too much for her and the prices were cheap as well.

Hotel Burg Liebenstein: another great castle-hotel

Hotel Burg Liebenstein is another great hotel in Kamp-Bornhofen, about 60 km downstream from Ruedesheim, and it offers a great panoramaview and lots of possibilities to hike.

The castle is quite remote, offers a fews great rooms at reasonable prices - just click on the link below !

I was there in early april, the week before easter and there were just a very few guests, as the street going up is quite steep.

They have a great interior with an old Iron armour and lovely furniture.

Schlosshotel Burg Gutenburg: Burg Gutenburg - sleep like a duke

Not far from Ruedesheim you may sleep in this old castle, that was transfered into a modern hotel.
It is situated in KAUB, close to the castle Pfalzgrafenstein.

For prices and reservations - click on the link below !!

Hotels in the small villages along the river Rhine always have the problem that the trains pass by in a short distance, and quite a lot of trains run even at night.

In a castle hotel, high above the Rhine, you may sleep much better...

Gaestehaus Endlich: A reasonable hotel

We wandered around Rüdesheim am Rhein looking for a hotel to stay. We found this hotel/restaurant about 2 blocks off the main street. As is normal in Europe, the hotel included breakfast. Rooms had spacious bed, shower and sink. WC was common on each floor (of 5 rooms).

We would recommend the hotel. Very reasonably priced, and price included overnight parking behind a locked gate. Staying at Rüdesheim was quieter than the past few nights in big cities - even the church bells did not ring from 10pm to 10am.

Jugendherberge Rudesheim: Rudesheim's Youth Hostel

The hostel is simple, but very comfortable. The location is worth a stay and gives you the chance to visit the surrounding. Just don't ask too much to the landlord... :)

This hostel is located in a very suggestive place, surrounded by vineyards and nature. The view is spectacular and the Rhine is stunning...
