Trainspotting at the Darß peninsula
"Trainspotting"
I recently spent a weekend at the Darß peninsula. We were invited for a birthday party in an old railway station which was turned into appartments. The railway station and the tracks haven't been in use since 1945 when the Russians took most of the tracks away so the place was basically in the middle of nowhere.
"The Darß"
The Darß is one of three parts of a peninsula called "Fishland-Darß-Zingst" at the Baltic coast of East Germany. There are some lovely beaches as well as wild forests here. It's a beautiful area - I have to return some day to see more of it!
"Accommodation"
I wasn't actually staying inside the railway station but outside in an old train. What an adventure. From our compartment we had a view of the sea and the Bodden in front of it and at night you heard nothing but the thousand of herons that take a break here on their way to the South.
