KZ - Concentration Camp Memorial
This simple stone monument to the victims of the Holocaust stands in the Rosengarten, in front of the former parliamentary building - the initials "KZ" stand for Konzentrationslager or "Concentration Camp".
Comfortable and friendly gasthaus, good location trams and buses just over the road, short ride to both the centre and the hauptbahnhof, few minutes walk to the old harbour with some decent restaurants.
Large clean and comfy ensuite room for us, a few steep stairs maybe a problem for some, a very good breakfast included in the price, helpful and friendly staff, all in all a very good place to stay - enjoyed our time here and happily revisit oneday.

The walls of the former Heinkelwerke aircraft factory. It was here that the ejector seat was invented.
The building was in the process of being demolished when, almost too late, the locals suddenly realised that this historic building should be preserved for posterity. Military aircraft production began here in 1933 with over 10,000 employees. Unfortunately this was the main reason why the city suffered so badly from allied bombing during WWII. It was successfully reconstructed after the war, but as you can see, it eventually closed and demolition began.
These walls will be preserved as a monument.
I came only once into the DDR - the so-called " German Democratic Republic "
M/S Vistafjord had Rostock on the schedule for a port of call during a cruise, and so I had a short look into the socialist paradise...
I never wanted to visit the DDR, as long as " the wall " existed...
...BUT, seen from the sea-side there was NO wall, so I gave it a try....
