This is a place for fitness...
by Gaby_Thieme
This is a place for fitness and relaxation. It has many Health-spas which we enjoyed.
Saunas, steam-baths just to name a few. The Old-town with its bell-music sounds. The water fountains and statues, and being captivated at the sights of old fashion town-houses and brick churches. As well as the
white sandy beach with a view so far out that one could see giant ships and sailing vessels in the horizon.
I can still see them and smell the water. I can still hear the wind forcing the waves unto the surf and hear the see birds ----but all is now just memory.
Kröpeliner Straße
by Kathrin_E
Rostock’s main shopping street became the DDR’s first pedestrian mall already in the 1960s. The eastern part between Neuer Markt and Universitätsplatz has many renaissance and baroque houses. The oldest building is no. 82, the medieval parsonage of the hospital. Towards Universitätsplatz, the block on the left with the former hotel Rostocker Hof has been turned in an indoor shopping mall with some 40 shops and food places, good to grab a quick bite for a takeaway lunch. Beyond Universitätsplatz the street has mostly modern shop buildings with the usual chain stores. In the west the street ends at Kröpeliner Tor, a medieval gate tower.
Nikolai Church
by Kathrin_E
The church of St Nikolai was heavily damaged in World War II and rebuilt as a centre for church activities. The attic above the nave has been turned into apartments. How does it feel to live in the roof of a gothic church? The view from the balconies must be amazing.
Next stop: Helsinki

Hi!
The only place of Rostock I've been to so far is the ferryport but the rest looked gorgeous so I have to go back some day.
The only good picture I have from here is a "stolen" one from the www.expo2000.de page. It was taken when the Leningrad Cowboys introduced the new EXPO2000 ads that were placed at every German ferryport during the 5 months of the Expo. The signs said "Dear Neighbours, at June 1st we'll be celebrating the opening of our Expo in Hannover. It might be a bit louder but you are very welcome to celebrate with us". Cute isn't it?
I really loved the signs and as I love the Leningrad Cowboys as well I thought I could put it here...
