Rostock in DDR-times

Shopping was another kind of adventure.
Simply imagine a shop for clocks and watches and you see a large shop-window with maybe just 1 or 2 simple alarm-clocks in the window, and NOTHING else.
Go into the shop and ask for alarm-clocks - you will be lucky, as the shop has 1 or 2 for sale, and when you leave the shop is empty and has to wait for the next delivery tomorrow or maybe next month...
who knows...
Square Dancing!!!
by Mariajoy
Only a local would probably know the whereabouts of these delightful chimes. Situated in the garden of the former St Jakobikirche, the 9 brass squares ring out in different notes when stepped on. Those with a musical ear can even manage to *step out* well known tunes. As it was late and we were the only people there it was a lot of fun to dance on the squares in the dark!! I am told it is a very popular pasttime with children visiting the garden too!

Rostock was the Main Town from where my wife and I started our 2002 Baltic Shore trip.
