Poor recommendation.

by SSlatter about Bootshaus- Seehotel Frankenhorst

The “Bootshaus” is the restaurant of the Seehotel Frankenhorst, which was recommended to me as a good place to eat. Situated by the side of a lake known as Ziegelsee, the restaurant has a very pleasant outlook. Unfortunately I can’t say the same about the food, which was disappointing to say the least. I ordered a schweinesteak with salad and pommes frites, which was dry and uninteresting. My friend (a vegetarian) ordered Wokgemüse, which was a dish of stir-fried vegetables in a purportedly chinese style. It was so salty she felt the need to complain, albeit after she had eaten it. The service was okay. The bill for two came to 32.90 euros with drinks, that I felt was not good value, taking into account the rather low standard of cooking that we experienced. Maybe we just visited on a bad day, but I cannot recommend this restaurant.

Travel Tips for Schwerin

Dom - the Cathedral

by Kathrin_E

The Dom, seat of the Bishop undtil 1648 and since then the parish church of the old town, was built in 1270-1416. Although the construction works took almost 150 years the interior shows a uniform high gothic appearance. The colours of vaults and walls, white ground with green, pink and dark red lines, have been renewed according to rests of medieval paint. The furnishing has partly been renewed in the late 19th century and is mostly neo-gothic.

The steeple which dominates Schwerin's silhouette is a 19th century addition, it was erected in 1889-1892. It can be climbed (220 steps), the view of the town and the lakes must be amazing.

Hint concerning walking around the church: The stairs on the western side in front of the steeple have become the meeting point of the town's punks and their dogs. When I walked by in the afternoon they did not take any notice of me and were completely harmless but you never know what happens if they get drunk later on. If your nerves are weak better choose a different way around the church, i.e. the choir side.

Schwerin, big city in small town...

At the moment the BUGA is here. A event where the histora of flowerpainting, or so, is tell.

I don´t like the people here, because it´s my hometowm and my familiy is poor, but the buildings and architecture is very nice...
