Stralsund from the Nordmole
Surrounding the town, and making up a part of its defence, are the freshwater lakes that are separated from the Strelasund strait by two dams. The Frankenteich is split in two by the Weidendamm, with the northern side bear the sea being the prettier of the two. The northern half offers views of the old 19th century school, like in the picture, whereas the southern half has views only of the train station and little else.
Stralsund. Not Straslund, though its tough to remember how to spell if for some reason. A good overnight trip from Berlin, if you can afford/don't have time to really go the whole way to the resorts on the far side of Rügen. Has enough to do for 2 days .. just a little lacking in nightlife!

A: "Early August is THE main tourist season when almost all of Germany is on the road. There is always heavy traffic and it is worse on Saturday, starting Friday night."
