Braunschweig to Wolfsburg?
by cologg
Hi,
I'll be staying in Braunschweig (Hansestrasse 90 a) in December and would like to know the best way to travel to Wolfsburg?
I think taxi might be expensive and was thinking about train.
I won't actually be travelling directly to the town but to the VOLKSWAGEN ARENA.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you.

Thanks.
There don't seem to be any trains between those two stations.
Any ideas?

http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en gives the best options for you travel, but if you want to go by train there are regional trains every hour and ICE trains every 2 hours.
From (Station/stop): Braunschweig
To (Station/stop): Wolfsburg
will give you the trains from Braunschweig Hbf (main station) to Wolfsburg Hbf (main station.

in google type db and the 4th website down will say Deutsche Bahn timetable, click on this then select address (from dropdown menu) for departure and destination, type them in and you will end up with times available. It appears that you need a tram followed by a bus. There are more complicated routes but if you look at the actual times that suit you, you will be able to select this under "details for all".
The journey will take 1 1/2 hours so a taxi would cost a fortune.

Just some advice, if you want to get to the Volkswagen Arena you will still have to get off at the main station in Wolfsburg and walk 5 minutes. The train ride between Braunschweig and Wolfsburg is short but your location in Braunschweig is a bit remote.

No need to get the train, the tram and bus I saw on Deutsche Bahn takes him right there.
Travel Tips for Braunschweig
Beautiful Braunschweig
by Colzy
Burgplatz is a wonderful initiation to Braunschweig. Not only is the square beautiful but it is also located in the centre of town and is therefore an excellent starting point for any sightseeing.
The Landesmuseum and the Braunschweig Dom are also located within the square and the lovely Rathaus is only seconds away. I love Braunschweig's botanical gardens and relaxing there with a novel, particularly in summer where there is plenty of shade and grass areas. It is only a 10 minute walk from the very centre of Braunschweig and many an hour can be easily idled away here.
Bartholomäus Church
by Kathrin_E
The little church, formerly dedicated to St Bartholomew, was first built in the late 12th century, later rebuilt in gothic style. After the reformation it served as lecture hall, then as arsenal. In 1708 the Duke gave it to the small calvinist community, which still celebrate their services there. The calvinists were a minority in a mostly lutheran city, but in those times they were tolerated and got a church of their own.
In the air raid of October 1944 which flattened most of the city centre, the church was destroyed. In the 1950s it was rebuilt in its former shape but without the two spires.

Burgplatz
by Nemorino
Henry the Lion (1129-1195) had this statue of a lion set up on the Burgplatz around 1166.
Actually this is only a replica, but the original is still on display just a few steps away in the Dankwarderode Castle, where it has been set up indoors to protect it from air pollution.
Second photo: This large half-timbered house is called the Von Veltheimsches Haus and is one of several historic buildings on the Burgplatz. Unusually, for a German city, these are mainly the original buildings, not replicas.
Technical University Carolo-Wilhelmina
by Nemorino
The Technical University Carolo-Wilhelmina in Braunschweig is Germany's oldest technical university. It was founded in 1745, and now has around 15,000 students (10,000 men and 5,000 women), including nearly 1,600 non-German students from over 80 different countries.
The university has about forty courses of study in such fields as Life Sciences, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Physics, but also Humanities and Educational Sciences.
Rizzi House
by Kathrin_E
A colourful paradise bird has landed between the historical Magni quarter, the Kaufhof department store and the Schloss shopping mall. The candy-like architecture has been designed by the artist James Rizzi in his typical style. For my personal taste it's a bit too kitschy, but it certainly adds a fancy splash of colour to the city centre... Have a look and decide for yourselves whether you like it or not.
