Buxtehude - Fairy Tale world
"Inner City"
The City itself has around 40,000 inhabitants, so it can be considered as a small town in the Hamburg area. I visited the city via a busiess trip as it hosts a number of big manufacturing compaies like Unilever, Bacardi.
The inner city is quite peaceful, inhabitants say there are only a few people to see on the streest after dark.
The nice wooden decorated biuldings in the inner city are memorable and give you the feeling like being in a fairy tale.
"The Bunny and the hedgehog"
The fanous fairy tale "the bunny and the hedgehog" by Brother Grimm is settled in Buxtehude, as some other fairy tales are referring to the city. In German language there is an expression where saying "chase to Buxtehude" means "send sg too far". Some people who know the fairy tale stories even see Buxtehude as imaginary city and don`t know that it really exists.
"Maritime"
Buxtehude`s name means partly port as it was a commercial harbour in the Hamburg area in the 1600`s.
Last ship of the Buxtehude Fleet is still landed in the inner city.
