Takes between 4 and 4 1/2 hours, there are direct trains but for some departures you change in Wurzburg. You get off at Hannover Hbf. For timetable see http://bahn.hafas.de/bin/query.exe/en

Hannover is not exactly among the top tourist destinations in Germany.
I would stick to places more or less on the direct route between Munich and Frankfurt.

Travel Tips for Hannover
Hannover is definitely not boring!
by nepalgoods
Hannover is full of beautiful buildiungs, famous parks and interesting people. If you want to see more than described in the guide books you should book a city tour with Stattreisen. They show you the special places and tell you about famous and not so famous people, who lived in Hannover. Their themes are among others:
Famous women in Hannover
The Jews in Hannover
...
The tours are mainly in German, but I think they can also arrange tours in English. www.stattreisen-hannover.de
Herrenhauser Gardens...

Herrenhauser Gardens Illumination Nights. I know I listed this under tourist traps but that was just to caution you to make sure you visit on a good day. I just went to one of the illumination nights which run through the summer. At 10pm as the sun sets they light up the statues and fountains and play baroque music (through speakers). The result is an enjoyable romantic setting where you feel transported to the life of the rich, leisurely nobility. Cost 3 Euros/2 for students. www.hannover.de should have the schedule.
Hannover has a preety big...
by radzio
Hannover has a preety big airport so you can fly there from many places of the World (e.g. London, New York, Bangkok, Jo'burg).
You can also use the train: You will arrive to the completly refurbished train staion. All routes to and from Hannover are served by the German Railways. You can use the ICE trains which are very fast and comfortable but extremely expensive!
Use the new S-Bahn, the Stadt-Bahn (trams & underground) or the buses.
Spanish Food and Atmosphere
by sabsi about Tasca Rias Baixas
A very original Tapas bar that is always busy and you have to reserve weeks in advance if you want to get a table. Food is good and cheap and drinks are strong and cheap! The perfect place to go after a rowing party in the middle of the night! The aioli is to die for. If you go there, tell Carlos that "Babsi" said Hello! hehehe
Old Town
by Typ88
The Old Town
From the Kröpcke, it is not very far to the Old Town. During World War II, nearly whole Hannover got bombed - but this little part of the town did not. So it's a piece of history - and different to the whole rest of the town.
