HELP! ACCOMODATION IN HANNOVER
by slvalencia
Hello, I will be attending CeBIT Hannover on 17-21 of March 2007 and I need a cheap accommodation. I am going with 3 friends more, but we need to find something ASAP. We don't need much, just a couple beds and access to a bathroom. Can somebody help us? Do you think we can get a room for 2 people for $25 Euros/ night in order to expend $50 for all of us per night?
Thanks in advance.

I think you should look at Youth Hostels as a hotel at that price would be fairly dodgy. If nothing available in Hannover look at nearby towns as the trains over there are frequent.

You can try the youth hostels, but even there expect to pay about 25 Euro a person, not a room.

If they still have rooms available, book straight away, as rooms go very fast during the CEBIT. I know of people who stayed in Frankfurt and commuted each day.

this might be a alternative:

make your booking a.s.a.p. because the CEBIT is a major event and it will be very hard to find something

In case you really get desperate and do not mind using trains & trams for 90 minutes, try finding accommodation in Verden/Aller. Verden is a very nice county seat town about 60 miles/100 km NORTH of Hannover. It has hourly train connection to Hannover Central, from where you will need another 30 minute tram ride to the exhibition grounds. Just did a hotel search for Verden and found prices there appear to be rather normal at that time.
Send an email to the tourist information:
touristik@verden.de -- they will definitely speak English --
telling them what you need and how much you'd like to pay, don't forget to tell them you need a place not too far away from the railway station. And do reserve some time for strolling through Verdens's wonderful historic town centre too, it is a hidden gem! Thank you so much for your email.
We are trying to get 2 rooms (with double bed each one) for 4 people.
Our budget is $45-50 Euros / per room / per night.
Do you think its possible anywhere? Do you have a link to send us?
Thank you again for your help!!

Check all the links you have been given as soon as possible.
45$ would be about 30 Euro, so you're looking for a room for 15 to 25 Euro a person. Not completely impossible, but very hard to find, especially during the CEBIT.

EXPO 2000 Mongolia
by ATLC
Mongolia represented itself with a Jurt village. These are big round tents.
I entered one and found a photographer and a rack full of Mongolian clothes. There was nobody around save the photographer and a few other Mongolians.
I paid 5 DM and got into a costume to be photographed. My friends came in after me and decided to do the same.
By the time we had finished dressing up, being photographed and laughing our heads off, the whole tent was full with people wanting to have their picture taken too!

Best cake in Hannover
by sabsi about Cafe Konrad
A gay cafe in Hannover's old town. Open for everyone and really friendly atmosphere. The waiters are all incredibly funny and nice!! In summer you can sit outside in the lovely backyard!!!
I think this cafe was named after one of the main characters out of my favourite gay comics by Ralf König. Everything looks really tasty here (even the waiters ;) The homemade cakes are wonderful and so is the pasta, the sandwiches and the aioli with bread. Prices are ok, not too cheap though.
NaNas and Niki de St. Phalle
by elgin99
Creator of the world-famous Nanas, Niki de Saint Phalle, born 29th of October 1930 in Paris, died 21st of May 2002 in San Diego, was the first and so far only woman to receive the Freedom of the City of Hannover and a friend of the town on the River Leine for thirty years.
The appearance of three brightly-coloured, amply-proportioned polyester Nanas beside the River Leine in 1974 raised a storm of protest from some Hanoverians and sparked off the city's first partisan and far-reaching debate about art in public urban spaces. Today the Nanas, who quickly became a symbol of the EXPO City, have a firm place in the affections of local people.
