swinging Hannover
by chancay
every year on ascencion day there is a big Jazz event on the Trammplatz, the place in front of the new townhall. It´s a long tradition in Hannover, so every year thousands of people are hear to listen to the music. As this day is also called "father´s day" in Germany, there are a lot of groups of men around, celebrating their day, but as well it is a family day, you see a lot of young families there.
On the photo you can see the mayor of Hannover, Mr Schmalstieg in a blue shirt.
ACANTO BAR
by Juliet67 about ACANTO BAR
Even competitors must admit - the 'Acanto' is the nicest bar in town. This noble bar is situated in the vaults of a former riding-stable. The interior is in Spanish style: lavish curtains, mirrors, chandeliers, fruit-decorations, flowers and candles everywhere. Everything matches the style, even the rest room.
And the guests match the noble atmosphere, too.
Specials: weekend disco from 23h, Monday Cocktail Tasting from19h
Beer: Herrenhäuser, Löwenbräu Elegant outfit is compulsory, nobody would wear trainers! Malicious people mumble that guests are bound to pay for the lavish decorations by the list of beverages. But the atmosphere is well worth it.
Hausbrauerei
by bonio about HBX Stadtbrauerei an Aegi
Always interested in a brewpub, spotted this one close to the Neues Rathaus, a visit guaranteed then!
Time of year for fresh asparagus so Mrs Bonio very happy and my roast beef very good as well. Only one beer on offer, a tasty pils little expensive at 4.60 for a half litre though, never mind - enjoyed our visit here.

In Feuchter´s lila Kranz Rainer Feuchter, the owner, has cooked new German cuisine since 1978 using the best of produce and with a regional influence.
The restaurant's appeal lies in its opulent classical French décor. Chandeliers, mirrors, silverware, round tables with extravagant flower decoration, selected wines, champagnes and Einbecker draught beer all await the visitor.
The establishment offers a lengthy red Bordeaux winelist that includes the best 1988, 1989 and 1990 vintages at reasonable prices.

weird buildings of the expo
by willy_wonka
the expo of 2000 was a big success for hannover, but today, many of the expo sites lay in ruin, disused and abandoned. while some of the key buildings are still used today for functions (such as technology fairs), the majority of buildings from the expo are left in ruin. its almost like a ghost town driving past some of the buildings.
im sure at the height of the expo the buildings and their architecture would of been magnificent. such weird shapes, new materials used, intriguing design. even from some of the more 'ruinous' buildings you can see that they were once magnificent.
the expo/fair area of hannover is well worth a look if you are interesting in weird and some would say, whacky architecture.
